Bad Caveman
« on: March 02, 2011, 10:50:46 AM »
I was a bad caveman and paid for it.  Last night my wife invited me to join her for some drinks at a Mexican cantina after work.  So I go over there to have a beer and tortillaless tacos when I spy stuffed jalapenos on the menu.  I ordered them and ate 4 of them...  This morning I thought I was GOING TO DIE!  My gut cramped up and I broke out in a cold sweat, my head was spinning and I almost threw-up.  What came out of me was as foul as anything I could describe.  I thought for sure I was calling in sick today.  Well, after a bit of time and a nice shower, I felt 1/2 human and made it to work but I still feel only 1/2 human.  You would think that after eating caveman for almost a full year, I would be smarter than that.  Please learn from my mistake and don't ever eat those damn things...

Three weeks ago I got invited to a Dinner Theatre. Despite my best intentions I had a beer :(, potatoes :-\, bread :o and cheesecake :o.

Fell off the paleo wagon big time. By the time I got home I had a cannonball in my belly, awoke the next day with some skin(scalp) itch/pimples and got a cold within 2 days of my fall from grace. First time I was sick in ages!

Coincidence?

Moral of the story - sometimes you gotta fail to reaffirm success.

I have experienced that several times.
My theory is that when we go on paleo diet, we lose the ability to digest the crap non paleo stuff.
The levels of digestive flora we have are decimated.

So my theory is that if we overdose on various probiotics, we regain the ability to digest those non paleo stuff.

I did overdose various probiotics in December and I feel my gut has been solid.  I can eat some cooked meat and some rice at times.

You may want to try the probiotics approach.

Thanks for the advice GS but I just think I should just eat right and not deal with it.

I had dairy, my kiss of death, today.  I didn't even realize how much was in the drink I'd been bought until my stomach started gurgling.

Now I'm just waiting for the painful, itchy acne that will no doubt follow in the next 24 hours.  I'm so mad at myself. >:(  I'd gone almost 5 months without any dairy ingestion other than a bite of cheese now and then.

I don't seem to have too many side effects from cheats but I think I get away with it because of my age! (24)

That said, dairy gives me eczema and wheat gives me the runs.  I think the longer you are on paleo the less tolerant you are of non-paleo 'food'

The thing that gives me the worst problems (bloating and gas) is actually something pale...undercooked broccoli!!!!

Under cooked broccoli hurts my wife pretty bad too while I can eat it raw with no problems.
