Blood type diet vs. Paleo diet
« on: March 06, 2012, 07:11:15 AM »
Just want to know if anyone have experience with the bloodgroup diet prior to the paleo diet ?

Especially people who have blood type A and did well on it or not. As mentioned in the blood group diet that says that blood types A are actually better off vegetarians without meat.

Blood types O should drive well on a meat based diet contrary to the blood type A types.

Just like to hear your opinion or experiences about this...

From what I've seen, it works best for type O since their diet is closest to paleo.  Other blood types also do better on the type O diet.

I haven't tried it myself, but I've heard of research that showed that when people who did not know their blood type tried the various diets to see what suited them best, there was no correlation with their blood type.

My Mum is type A, and she's just gone paleo, and it seems to be suiting her well so far.

The blood type diet theory is definitely one of the stupidest ideas that I have ever seen, People do well on it because they switch to a more paleo style diet end of story. The idea that your blood type could determine what you should eat has no foundation in science as mentioned above.

I and my children are blood type B.
It is a coincidence that the blood type diet correctly predicts we are allergic to chicken... Any chicken... Even organic... Cooked or raw.

So we eat duck instead.

Blood type diet is a mere guide.

You must verify by experience.

I couldn't agree more. The first time I heard about it I was completely perplexed that people believe this crap. It just panders to the general populations desire for making eating seem more complex, and gives them something else to blame for their dieting failures.

I have been kinda of doing the "blood type" diet, along with paleo as I am type O and it fits in very well.

The only things I am wondering is cauliflower and cabbage.  I read it is due to the "acidity" of the items, and I recall the Paleo for Athletes mentioning the acidity issue in foods, related to recovery I believe.

Is this reason sufficient enough to avoid certain foods, or am I eliminating some tasty items from my diet, for no apparent reason.  I am eating peppers and tomatoes (not a lot) so maybe concern about cauli is unfounded.

You want to get a variety of vegetables, not all of the same type.  Cauliflower and cabbage are both cruciferous vegetables and have similar properties.  Peppers and tomatoes are nightshades which have different properties.  Too many of any kind will cause issues.  All types have their own unique strengths as well.

Ignore the blood type diet.  Coincidentally, the O Type is similar to paleo which is the only redeeming quality of that diet.  Just follow the paleo diet.
