Dietary Debauchery and Sugar Addiction
« on: December 26, 2011, 07:16:52 AM »
Now it is the day after Christmas I am going to be 100% paleo except for my morning coffee. When you are invited to friends or families for dinner it is hard to stick to paleo because they could be insulted if you don't try their fresh baked holiday concoction.

However, has anyone noticed that if you eat a slice of pie or some cookies the next thing that happens is that you are craving a Coke or Pepsi?

I have absolutely noticed that!  Any sugar/carb concoction always leaves me wanting more.  Before I got a handle on my addiction to sugar and carbs I reached a point of being 60 lbs overweight--in other words, OBESE.

But back to your point, I have absolutely noticed an association with eating carbs and wanting a coke--even diet coke.  And I have noticed the reverse effect, too, of wanting something carbish after a diet coke.

I can't say I've noticed a craving specifically for coke or pepsi but I definitely get major carb cravings when I have eaten something I shouldn't have!
You got a dream, you've got to protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. You want something, go get it. Period.

Within a few hours of any significant carb intake, I begin to crave more carbs.

As for potentially offending folks when I don't reach for a cookie or piece of pie, I tell them that I'm gluten intolerant. Most people know what that is and accept the reason. I've never been diagnosed with gluten intolerance, but it's close enough to the truth that I feel no guilt.

You shouldn't feel any guilt, because we're ALL gluten intolerant.  8)

I have no cravings because I know that within 4 hours, I will be visiting the bathroom, again and again and again and again...  It's not worth it for me :p
