Fighting the Urge for the BAD stuff = EPIC FAIL
« on: February 04, 2012, 07:53:14 AM »
My first month of Paleo went awesome!  i feel better physically and mentally.  the last few days, not so much though.  my cravings and urge for pizza and fast food has been running rampent.  i sadly gave in 2 nights ago and ordered a pizza.  i knew i would regret it, and i do.  i did the best i could with what i ordered keeping it high in protien with steak and loaded with veggies.  doesnt really matter i know with everything else that i consume with it.  im very dissapointed with myself, but in my own defense, the last few days have been rough on me.  i put up with it as long as i could.    any suggestions on how to replace the urge for bad food?

What helped me stay away from non paleo foods in the beginning was to make sure I was fully satiated in fatty paleo food. .

yep. I always got the biggest cravings when i was hungry. Seem obvious but when you are thinking about a big bowl of icecream sometimes you dont realize that you are hungry. Make the biggest piece of meat you can cook and eat it until stuffed.

ive noticed that one of my issues is not eating as much as i should, but i get to the point when im craving the bad foods, nothing that i can eat sounds good.  i know its a mental block, just got to get over it.

I agree with the others - find some paleo food that you really like.

We had a fatty rib roast tonight - so good!  Not something you can really cook up quickly if you suddenly realize you're hungry, though.

i also think that one of my issues is i am still learning.  i get confused due to the fact that i have read that your meats should be lean.  i have also read, foristance in this post that fatty is the way.  like i said, im still learning.

Whenever I want something "bad" I will eat a piece of fruit with some heavy cream or some coconut cream if I want something sweet.  Or I'll snack on a handful of nuts.  Or if I want something savoury I will eat a piece of strongly-flavoured cheese (definitely not ideal, but the strong flavour keeps the portion small and I feel it's a better option than, say, potato chips or pretzels).  Seems to help me!

I must say I don't 'crave' old foods all that much if I eat plenty at meals - lots of fatty, quality meat and lots of vegetables, eggs etc.  It took me a while to get my head around eating so much meat (as an ex-vegan especially! :)) but when I realised that I had to replace all the grains/legumes/sugar with SOMETHING to keep my hunger at bay and my calorie count up, I pushed through and now find myself very satisfied at meals.  I don't snack nearly as often as I used to, and cravings have certainly diminished.

That said, I do cheat a few times a week.  I just keep the portions small and only if I really want it.
