Hi all,

How large is the amount of fats or fiber for you in order to heave healthy daily and frequent bowel movements? I do eat my meats with veggies, some olive oil and duck fat, but that doesn´t seem to be enough. Some people mentioned coconut oil. But how much? Like 1 tablespoon or 3? Or do you eat fruits after meat meal? And which?

You don't need daily or frequent bowel movements.  When I'm very strictly paleo I often go two or three days between bowel movements.

If you really want more frequent bowel movements, you can eat more fruit, providing sugar to the gut bacteria that make up the bulk of stool.  That just benefits the bacterial, though, not you.

Actually I feel like I do need them frequently, otherwise I feel bad. I am eating plenty of fruit, sometimes I think even too much. So I was thinking to add more fat. The question is how much.

Donglailly, less veggies and fruit, especially fruit, might help.  Also, cut out any starchy "vegetables".  However, to really identify the culprit, you'd need to start a food journal and write down everything you eat.  Then people who have been here a while would be able to point out likely culprits.

Donglailly, are you consuming large amounts of nuts, especially raw? Nuts can contain off the chart phytic acid levels (inflammatory) which can irritate the heck out of the colon = gas. Try roasted or soaking methods....worked for me. Also, are you doing any dairy? (another inflammatory). Unfortunately for some Paleo peeps even the 'good stuff' can be a pain when we're GI sensitive.

Rawcus, Warren is correct. Frequent BMs aren't necessary, but understand your frustration. The Paleo bowel is by nature a slower moving beast....and for good reason. Frequent BMs may deplete nutrient adsorption along with a host of other probs. I had the same feelings as you in the beginning, but given time it became 'normal' and your body & mind adjust. If you still want to go forth with frequent BMs get psyllium husk or flaxseed into your diet....usually works like a charm. :)
