How much do oyu guys pay per can/pouch?

Do you get them at whole foods?

I just buy them at the normal supermarket. Buy them in olive oil if possible. Usually I pay somewhere between $0.75 and $1.25 per can. The pouches are more expensive, so I don't keep them around unless I'm backpacking.

I usually have a stash of about 5-10 cans in my cabinet.

EDIT: damnit. I answered regarding canned tuna.

Regarding salmon: I think $5 is the normal cost at my supermarket, and I usually have 1 or 2 at home

As I said in another thread, make sure it's more than just "Wild Salmon". Make sure it's "Wild Alaskan Salmon"

I'm sorry phrakture--I missed the other thread.  Why only Alaskan?  I've read it's the *best*, but are there serious drawbacks to any old 'wild salmon'?

Thanks!

Wild Alaskan salmon is the lowest in mercury and other contaminants.  That said, I'm personally fine with salmon from other areas of the Pacific northwest, such as British Columbia.

Mercury contents of the fish, for one. But the other thing you need to realize is that we have fished Atlantic salmon to death. There are no more "Wild Atlantic" salmon. They all live in fish hatcheries, some of which are feeding corn to their fish (fish are not ungulates, they don't eat grains). Any "Wild Atlantic" or "Wild Caught Atlantic" salmon are fish that have escaped from the hatcheries and were then re-caught. I think some hatcheries even do it on purpose so they can market theirs as "wild"

This is true. I guess I should rephrase my statement here. It shouldn't be "make sure you get Wild Alaskan", it should be "make sure you DON'T get Atlantic salmon"

I buy them in sam's club (similar to cotsco). $2 for a can of wild alaskan salmon that contains 14.75 OZ. I have seen it in normal markets for around $3.

Ok I bought a pouch of boneless, skinless, wild alaskan pink salamon.  It's like 7.5oz for $2.50.

Gonna throw it in my big salad for lunch tomorrow and see how it goes.  Thanks guys.
