Raw eggs
« on: September 12, 2006, 08:54:36 AM »
I just started paleo a few weeks back. I eliminated all grains, dairy and sugars. I feel pretty good. I do have a question about eggs. I eat about a dozen a day, maybe 6 cooked and the rest raw. I read SO much about the benefit of eggs, many are for it, many are against it. I really dont know what to think. I read that the body cant absorb the proteins if you eat them raw. Then I read that the body cant absorb the proteins if they are cooked. I dont know what to think. Thanks for any help.

I've heard the raw version before, but not the cooked version. Where did you read each claim?

In my hardcore lifting days I followed the rule of no more than 3 eggs a day

Always ate the entire egg

And always heated it up enough to be semi-cooked due to that belief about protein not being used fully if uncooked

Don't know what the real truth is but I think a dozen eggs a day is overdoing it

You should also consider the cholesterol side of it, although I've heard several arguments both for and against, regarding whether the cholesterol contained in eggs is good or bad for you.

Here's some links on Eggs. Read up and make a choice.

By the way I eat at about 3 a day, usually fried or boiled.

Quite apart from whether eggs are better raw or cooked, it has been argued that the white of the egg is of little worth anyway: http://cholesterol-and-health.com/Egg_Yolk.html.

As for cholesterol, the whole of the above website is dedicated to explaining why it's so good for you!

I am new here... may I add some of my comments.

I have been eating about 2-5 eggs daily for about 3-4 months.
After a blood test , my cholesterol level is still good.

So I presume that even eating more than 2 eggs daily is not that bad for me.
