Losing taste for meat
« on: February 04, 2012, 04:34:08 PM »
Since being on the Paleo Diet and eating copious amounts of vegetables my taste for animal flesh has declined. I was diagnosed with MS and am trying to find something that will help out. I have mostly been eating veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, eggs, and fish. I really have lost the taste for most other types of animal protein and am losing the taste for fish and eggs. I have been following the Paleo diet for quite some time now. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else? I ate some beef heart and cheeks in the last 2 weeks and it was alright. Thanks

This is probably not the best place to inquire about vegan diets. These people are Cave. They eat bugs and stuff.

Sorry to learn of your diagnosis. Have you checked for forums that are MS-specific for people that have had improvement with their conditions from certain nutritional strategies? I would only offer that you might find some help at http://www.dadamoinstitute.com/ but don't tell the other Cavepeople. They'll throw me out of the clan!

Scottdon, since you were last active, we've had another member who had a great deal of success with treating multiple sclerosis with paleo.  Here's her progress thread:

She may have a food journal too, which may be useful.

I haven't heard of anyone here losing the taste for meat when they previously liked it.  I can imagine it happening with beef that's not grass finished or pork that's not pastured, though.

Edit:  here's her food journal.

Wow, that makes it hard. Can you use more herbs and spices to add more flavour variety? That might help a bit.

Good luck!

Erg a link to the blood type diet bullshite. The junkiest of junk science.
The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

You should NOT be eating nuts.  Nuts are something like a handful ONCE a MONTH.
You should NOT be eating seeds.  Seeds are for birds, not people.

Our body's needs change, and since you are on a cooked diet, you need more variety.

Variety in the species that you eat, variety in the sources of "meat" that you get.

And if you don't feel like eating any animal food for a day or two, that is FINE.  Go and take a break.  You'll feel like eating them again in due time.

Your big problem is eating NUTS and SEEDS on a daily basis.  Which is wrong and not paleo.  You should know by now that NUTS and SEEDS kills your appetite for animal food.

But NUTS and SEEDS are inferior, very harmful "foods".  Nuts usually have too much omega 6 in them such as walnuts.

Get rid of the nuts and seeds.  Drop them to zero.

Are nuts and seeds really that bad? Maybe I am getting tired of meat because of a lack of variety. I have heard from many sources that animal saturated fats such as those found in beef are inflammatory. Does anyone have any tips for jazzing up fish? Also has anyone had experiences with arthritis and nightshades? Ive just given them up a couple of days ago. Does anyone else get tired of eating meat?

Red meat is anti-inflammatory.

Nuts and seeds are really THAT BAD.
Nuts - worst ratio of omega 3 to omega 6, be bombarded with omega 6.
What's more is you lose your appetite and digestive capacity for meat when you eat nuts and seeds.
So choose meat.

Kinds of land animal meats we have for my family that I buy:

- beef, duck, sheep, goat, horse

(my boys are allergic to chicken)

I have heard from many sources that animal saturated fats such as those found in beef are inflammatory.

Saturated fats are not the fats that primarily affect inflammation.

In modern diets, it seems that excessive omega 6 polyunsaturated fatty acids are inflammatory.  Omega 3s counter that effect.

For ideal omega 3 to omega 6 ratios, choose grass finished beef or pastured pork.  Feedlot meat is not as good, though it's still not nearly as inflammatory as vegetable oils, including that found in most nuts.
