Sleep, Sweet Cravings, Moral Support!
« on: January 12, 2012, 01:58:08 AM »
My energy level has been fine while I'm awake but getting out of bed in the mornings has been rough!  I've been sleeping in and have been getting around 10 hours each night (pretty good quality sleep too!).  I hope this will change?  The past few days I've been baby-sitting and the girl gets to the bus at 7 so I'm up at 6.  Instead of going to the gym at 9 I've been taking a nap!  Think this will change soon?  I've been really good about eating since the 1st.

So 12 days in and the cravings are starting to drive me nuts.  I finally caved last night  :o The girl I've been babysitting for has cupcakes sitting what seems like ALL OVER THE HOUSE!  I finally caved... I had one.  I don't really feel that guilty either.  I'm hoping my slip up will make me stronger?  Which leads me to desserts... maybe if I plan one on purpose a few days a week then I won't get cravings?  What would work?  Berries in coconut milk?  A citrus fruit (grapefruit)?  Do apples have too much fructose to bother with?

I just need a little hand holding!!!!  :D

Giving in to carb cravings just results in insulin spikes that cause more cravings.

It sounds to me like you are not getting enough fat.  Eat more good quality animal fat.

It's recommended a lot on here that eating too much fruit will stall weight loss, but fruit IS paleo. Personally I eat probably 5 or 6 fruits a day (apples, bananas, kiwi fruits mainly) on days where I am exercising.

While apples are quite sugary, the sugar is wrapped in a fair dose of fibre. You certainly shouldn't be afraid of eating an apple, or be treating it as a cheat...

Lol, Warren's response to any situation.

But seriously, I find that eating a lot of fat stops any craving for sweet things/carbs at all. I did an experiment one day to see what my body really needed - at dinner time, I put three things in front of me: a plate of pork chops, a plate of cooked fat scraps (really, just pure fat; stuff the butcher trimmed and was going to throw out), and some cooked spinach. I decided to just eat however much I wanted from these three things. I ended up eating one pork chop, some spinach, and a medium bowlful of the fat scraps. Dinner was at 7pm that night; I didn't feel the need to eat until 11am the next morning.

I haven't been eating like this for very long (the experiment was last Monday), but no carb cravings since then! :)
