What are your cheats/non-paleo indulgences?
« on: August 28, 2010, 04:20:18 PM »
We can't all be perfect here so I was wondering what everyone's achilles heel is when it comes to food.  What non-paleo food items do you eat whether it be a special occasion, once in a while or once a week for that matter.  I haven't been eating paleo for long but here they are:

Beer (only really good beer, and we brew our own which makes it even harder)
dessert (specifically cheesecake and ice cream)
sushi - a rare treat, I like sashimi, but having a big dynamite roll (tuna and avocado) is so satisfying

Same here with beer. I've had a sip of my son's milkshake.  I LOVE sashimi and can pass on the rolls, however the soy sauce is a temptation.

My default diet is raw paleo diet.

My usual cheat is cooked paleo meat... for socials.

What is mouth watering for me is "dinuguan", it is a bloody cooked porridge of pork blood with pork innards and pork fat.  It goes well with some rice in it. (which gives me bad digestion, bad combo).
If I'm lucky, I satisfy my cravings with raw liver and forget dinuguan.
But when I feed my kids dinuguan, I get to eat it too.
I'm on Raw Paleo diet but I have kids to feed on cooked paleo diet.

Well,........... alcohol in many forms.... Diet Coke... too much.  But in my defense, I eat only Paleo, no food cheats only beverages.  Yes, I know I must dump them too but... One step at a time.  No grains have passed my lips in a long time...
No expectations, no disappointments!

I had a cup of coffee today that was offered to me at the gym.

Occasionally I'll have what I refer to as a "neolithic doppleganger" - i.e. coconut "Ice Cream", or Plaintain chips. The only alcohol that doesn't make me feel sick the next day is cider (and I make sure to avoid Hornsby's and Woodchuck, both of which contain gluten and are really cider-flavored malt beverages).

If I still had my brewing equipment I'd probably make some mead as well.

Aha, the Hornsby's that is why I had a 1 pound gain after having just one last week!!!!  Good to know.  I am not sure I can get any other cider up here, will have to check it out.

But, my cheats: occasional alcohol- I try to stick with wine, like mer lot but I do like a good cider too, dark chocolate, coffee, dairy, sweet potatoes and occasionally ice cream.

I'm pretty much down to restaurant sauces that I can't completely remove from the paleo parts of the food.  I haven't even had my 99% chocolate for several months now.

Magner's is my favorite.  I have yet to find it here, we live about 30 minutes from the middle of no where.

Cream, butter, yogurt, and cheese. Hardly consider a cheat (yet, anyway). I just tried raw milk, cream, and cheese the past week. DIVINE. ;D I want to try making some raw yogurt for myself. I'm starting to think raw makes all the difference when to comes to my personal digestion of dairy.

Sushi once in a while, too.

Beer for me as well - partly for the alcohol I suppose, although I'm not so keen on red wine any more - I find it tastes too strongly of alcohol.

Since I was a kid I've always loved cheese - my mother says that when I was 1 year old I used to ask for it constantly and she once gave me some Danish Blue to put me off it but I liked it. I haven't missed it one bit since I started paleo.
