Women and Fasting
« on: July 23, 2016, 02:17:09 AM »
Hi Guys,

For all the women out there who have tried intermittent fasting or fasting of any sort, I'm interested to know about your experiences on it.

As a man, I've found it to be very successful, but for women I hear it can be non-beneficial if not outright harmful.

Have you tried it? Have you found success with different methods?

Thanks,
Cowlean

Hm, interesting.  Could be due to child bearing processes, etc.  Fat accumulates on the most important parts of their bodies for babies - breasts and buttocks (stronger to carry child, etc.)

I also KNOW for a fact that women who often think they are the most healthy can often stop menstruating - so is that really healthy or not (I think not)

I'm interested too.

As for amenorrhea, I'm not sure it's necessarily unhealthy unless you are trying to have kids.  Even in men, the body seems to optimize for reproduction when caloric intake is high, and for survival when caloric intake is low.  If you don't want to have kids at the moment, letting your body optimize for survival might be fine.

Hmmmm, can't say I agree there. Live and let live, but don't we find our optimal states when we are fertile?

The way I see it, during the paleolithic, it was advantageous to do our reproduction in good times, and to refrain from creating extra mouths to feed in lean times.  Thus, we have different optimizations for those different states.

Now, if you want to live your life around reproductive fitness, then yes, eat more, optimize for reproduction, and have a kid every 3 years from age 15 to 50.  Not all women want to do that, though.
