I am going to check out Play It Again Sports and Sports Authority and see what they have.  I do have access to the base gym, so maybe I will just use their stuff for the dips and abdominal work and get an over the door deal for the pull-ups, it will mean DH has to get motivated and lose a few pounds so he can share ;)

Oh!  That is cool, and could double as a stand for backdrops for hubby to use when taking protraits.  We might be on to something here.

One word of caution about the doorway chin up bars.  The molding around the doorway is finish nailed into drywall.  That means light duty nails into a light duty wall substance, this will not hold a 100 to 300lb person for very long. (If at all.)  Please use a chin up bar that screws into something!

This has been your public service announcement for the morning, please return to your regular pursuits.

Wow, that door's not up to code then. There should be studs framing all doorways. So it should be (frame)->(drywall)->(2x4). You just need long enough screws/nails to sink into the 2x4, but those are generally provided by the pullup bar manufacturer

I think Bee is talking about the bars that just hang off the frame, without any screws.

Yes.  And I am not sure I would attempt one that hangs from the door itself either.  (Bee says as she fires up the welding torch.)

I picked up one of those that fit in the frame and provide resistance on the wall above the door - standard infomercial-looking thing.  Put it up and began to hang my body weight on it and QUICKLY let go. It sure seemed like I was about to crack drywall.
