Hi!  Im not sure how this works really...the site and the diet!  I just know that I really need help.  I got eczema January 2009, and although I have managed to make improvements through changing my lifestyle and diet, I dont know how to get rid of it.  also, Im always sick!  I always get colds and other illness...my immune system isnt good.

So I have started eating more vegetables and jucing them and trying to eat nuts and fruit ...and cut out cooked food except for rice, potatos and chicken...and cut out sugar.....

But what else can I eat?  Do I need to do detoxes?  Im clueless....I was drinking tons of cranberry juice because its meant to have antioxidants only to be told the sugar in it would be doing more damage!  Just an example of how clueless I am.

Are canned vegetables ok?  Are frozen?

I'd really appreciate any help or advice, because I really want my eczema to go...im not accepting that I will have it forever, I refuse to.

oh and what about kefir?  I have some in organic milk that i made last night....

Frozen is better than canned.

Don't juice your food. You will create an insulin spike. It's better whole.

No rice or potatoes.

No milk.

Limit you nut intake.

Eat lots of fat.

It's the same list in the "PALEO DIET" book. It depends on who you listen to. The Paleo Diet book says eat lean cuts of meat. You can take your lean meats and cook them in coconut oil, olive oil, or canola oil - good fats. I have lost lots of weight by eating lean cuts of meat and cooking them in the oil listed above.

Maybe there should be a "Sticky" note in the first part of this category that says "We don't listen to Cordain when it comes to eating lean meats."

Hi Guys, thanks for your responses.  I have printed the list of foods and i will take it shopping when I get apid tuesday.

So far I have just had a big disaster:  last night I went home from work really hungry.  Ate beetroot while i tried to work out what to eat for dinner, but basically, unless I ate brocolli and cucmber for dinner, there wasnt anything other than the chilli and rice that the rest of the family were eating.  I gave in!

Woke up today determined to start eating properly and fix my body......had a glass of kefirs (I know you said no milk but kefirs are really good for your digestion and the good/bad bacteria and I made it so I dont want to waste it).....then I ate a raw egg (im really detemined!)...about 2 mins later I broke out in huge hives around my mouth and in my mouth.  I panicked and made myself throw up (I was afraid of what my eczema would do if i digested it)...washed my mouth and took two piritons.  The hives on my face and mouth are gone now....but my eczema is killing, its really red and itchy and irritated now whereas this morning it was just dry.

I wont let this experience put me off, but im a bit confused as i have never had a reaction to a cooked egg, and I read that having eggs raw is meant to be the way to have them to avoid reactions!  Maybe it was the milk, but it was a bout an hour after the milk that i had the eggs.....so im thinking it was the egg.

Im pretty gutted because I read about the amazing healing properties of raw eggs and thought, yep, thats what i need.  I was terrified to swallow it, but i manned-up and did it, and it wasnt too bad.  But then the reaction scared the crap out of me!  Any help or advice, anybody???

Just cook your eggs.
The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

Of course not! You can cook all of your foods. People who do raw are doing their form of Paleo, but the majority like their foods cooked (or at least seared). Cavemen had fire, remember? ;)

You can only eat RAW organic / fertilized eggs.
Factory eggs are mostly crap. Not paleo.
Beans are crap too... and not paleo.
And you sound so panicky.
You need to relax.
Have peace of mind.
And if you are eating salads, aka raw vegetables, make sure they are ORGANIC or else they are full of pesticides, herbicides, etc.
You might do better with fruits in season.
Paleo diet is about getting wild / organic fruit, vegs, animal foods.
I'm on Raw Paleo diet but I have kids to feed on cooked paleo diet.

Hi samaritan!!  Thank you for writing to me!  I've seen lots of your post....you must remember what it was like when you had eczema; didnt you feel panicky  :P

I would really appreciate your advice with this because reading what you have written is what encouraged me to come here in the first place, so thank you for responding!

Ok, I dont think those eggs were organic!  My family aren't really into buying organic, so I guess thats going to be something I do on my own.  I get paid tuesday and I will get a few bits. Obviously not too much because this kind of food goes off quite quickly....what would you recommend for a beginners first shopping trip?  some things that I can make a meal from?

I know I need peace of mind...I try to meditate but I can only do it sometimes because I get impatient.  I was on anti-depressants at the beginning of the year because the eczema was getting me down so much but I am off them and my mood is much brighter, but yeh, I tend to be panicky from time to time.

Squeak,

Look don't complicate it.  Meals are easy.  You strat with a meat serving.  That can be beef, lamb, pork, chicken, duck, fish, shrimp and on and on.  Then you need a salad choice, then pick a veggie or two.  Dinner is done.

Lunch I usually eat leftovers so make extra at dinner or a few hard boiled eggs.

Breeki, I am have just water and nuts and fruit during the week, sometime left over meat.  On weekends, cook bacon and eggs or sausage and eggs or steak and eggs....

Good luck but it will be easier if you don't complicate this WOE.  Read my success down under post for some success motivation.
No expectations, no disappointments!

You do not need to eat raw meat.  If you choose to do so down the road that is fine as well. As Bearso said, keep it simple. Meat and veggies are the base and could be the entirety of the WOE.  With a few exceptions fruit and nuts are fine (unless you're looking to loose weight then minimize).  No legumes, no sugar, no grain or grain products, some would say no seeds.  I'd be minimal about ingesting them.  Lose all dairy.  If you have skin problems I would even say no to ghee (clarified butter).  Cook with tallow, lard, coconut oil.  Flavor with olive oil. Corn, veggie, soy, canola, etc. oils are a no no.
