Chow time in the Wolf den.

I'm almost 100% Paleo right now.
Pretty typical day for me would be

Breakfast: omolette (5 egg whites & 1 whole egg) with left over veggies from dinner, fruit until I'm satisfied 1 liter of water and coffee (haven't given it up yet)

Mid-morning: 10 ozs. of meat or fish, steamed spinach, carrots and broccoli, hand full of walnuts, fruit water

Lunch: same as above

Mid-day: 8 ozs. of meat or fish, steamed veggies, 1/2 an avocado water

Dinner: same as above

Before bed (2hrs.) snack: 4-6 ozs. of meat and 1/2 an avocado

I drizzle a good amount of canola oil on my veggies every sitting.

Right now I'm not weighing my carbs. Just eating until I'm satisfied. In another week I plan on weighing and cutting carbs.

I don't get into trying to create dishes. I just pretty plain food. A little black pepper here and there.

Most of the meat I eat is game or free range beef from a ranch I work on. They pay me in meat. I move 90 tons of hay and they give me 400 lbs. of meat and organs for free.Most of the fish I eat is wild caught. Most of my protein is eaten rare, nearly raw.

I probably eat about the same amount of meat as you, but I do it in one meal.

Breakfast - coffee (its a seed so BACK OFF  ;))
Snacks until dinner - Dried sausage or jerky and some nuts
Dinner - up to 30oz+ of meat

I get plenty of fat at dinner and then can't eat a lot the next day.

I would avoid the canola oil if you can.  It's highly processed and probably contains transfats.  Extra virgin olive oil is better.  We use lard (we render it ourselves) for all of out cooking.

• Grains (wheat/rice/oats etc) . . . . . • Dairy (milk/yogurt/butter/cheese etc)
• Refined foods (salt/sugars etc ) . . • Nightshades (peppers/tomato/eggplant)
• Tubers (potato/arrowroot etc) . . . . • Legumes (soy/beans/peas)
• Modernly palatable (cashews/olives etc)

I agree completely with this--avoid all the seed/grain oils when you can.

Yea paid in meat  ;D. Not a bad gig! Twice a year I fill and stack their hay barns. It's about 90 tons of hay. In return they give me 400lbs. of grass fed/free range beef and they just give me all the organs I want.

I was under the impression that Canola oil was good due to the alpha-linolenic acid content. Better to just stick to eating walnuts for that?

Grass fed beef has a good Omega 3/6 ratio and you probably don't need to get that worried about ALA if that's what you eat.

I had a look at the highest to lowest ALA list (18:3 n-3) at Nutritiondata (under tools/nutrient search).

The first 'food' in the list was pork (397mg of ALA/100gm).

Forget the processed oil and use lard.  Another good excuse to eat pork belly for dinner!


P.S. the Nutritiondata site is an excellent resource for anyone looking into nutrient levels in food.  The data all comes from the USDA national nutrient database.

Walnuts would be better, yes.  Canola has a good omega 3:6 ratio, but that's only because it has almost none of either.  That might be better than corn oil, which has almost no omega 3 and lots of omega 6, but you won't get much in the way of omega 3s from canola oil.  While I don't think it has trans fats, it does have other components that are suspect.

What are you talking about Tarlach? A seed? Are you just being silly?

Your meal plan seems more like an all meat/protein diet from your post. When do you eat your fruits and veggies?

Not being silly - the coffee 'bean' is a seed

I do eat mostly meat and I do not eat big serves of fruit/veg at every meal.  I may have some fruit juice or fruit throughout the day or some frozen berries for dessert.  When we eat with others I will eat veggies or salad with dinner, but at home these days we often just have a plate of meat.

NICE! Well I'm having my favorite seed right now. I just ate 8oz. of Rockfish and 4oz of scallops, an orange and a few walnuts

I don't go out of my way to include fruits/veggies in my meal plan, either.  When unfavorable foods are eliminated there isn't a need for plant derived vitamins and minerals that are touted as healthy.  I also think the need for dietary fiber diet is overstated.

Wow! That's really cool about the coffee seeds. Who would have thought? I really love coffee myself, and I'll drink it black. I actually just read that you can eat a coffee bean without any problems, and that Buddhist Monks and African Tribesmen used to do it all the time. Supposedly eating the beans/seeds really packs a punch since you're subtracting the water. However, I have noticed that the acidity of the coffee beans bother me sometimes. Also, the caffeine eventually wears me down and makes me feel cranky. A cup of joe or snacking on a few beans from time to time could definitely be a fun guilty pleasure!  :P

Well I was prepared to start reducing my carbs next week but it already happening with out plan.
This morning I had an omolette 5 egg whites one whole egg with 1 cup of chopped spinach cooked in EVOO & coffee
Then a short 5 mi. mtn bike ride
After I had 2 lbs. of cold, broiled salmon leftover from last night
Then on the way back from the grocery store I had a handful of grapes
Dinner I had 1 lb of broiled chicken 1/2 lb. of roasted pork.

I will buy a dozen omega 3 eggs with a dozen regular eggs.  I will eat 1 or 2 omega eggs along with 3 or 4 the regular eggs minus the yolks since they dont have as much good (O3) fat as the other ones, but I need the added protein. The goal is to get more protien without all the omega six fat and save a bit of cash since omega eggs are usally much more expensive.
