Day one. I'm I on the right track?
« on: June 25, 2012, 08:22:27 AM »

So after researching for a few weeks I have taken the plunge and have started my Paleo journey today.

My weekday meals are probably going to remain very similar as I need to prepare my meals the night before for work.

Todays food intake was as follows.

Breakfast - 2 boiled eggs, 3 slices of bacon cooked in animal fat and some spinach leaves.

early morning meal/snack - Tuna and home made Paleo mayo with some spinach leaves.

Lunch - Broccoli, minced Beef with tomato puree, chilli powder, red onion and mushrooms.

snack - small handfull sunflower seeds.

Dinner - Salmon fillet, 2 slices Bacon and large serving of Broccoli.

Monday through to friday will be similair to this just to keep things simple but I will experiment as I go along.

I'm still very new to all this so any criticism is welcome.

I'm new as well, so don't just take my word for it, but that all looks great to me.

I have been informed that bacon is not actually paleo, but I eat it anyway, as do many other paleo folks. If you're going to eat it at least try to get the nitrate free uncured bacon.

I honestly don't understand why you would fry your bacon in more fat? Bacon makes its own grease very readily, so much so that I pour off what is left in the pan to reserve to cook other non-fatty foods with.

Maybe if you make it yourself it is. Been meaning to give this a try.

I really just used it to prevent it from sticking, but I'll try it tonight without greasing the pan first.

I'll be refining everything I do over the next few weeks/months/years, using the info I find here. It'll be a while before I'm 100% paleo. This first day is a huge jump for me, previously I would eat 3 or 4 servings of whole grain past or rice a day.

Good start.

You will notice as you go along things will change, your tastes will change, your entire menu will change.

You may eventually gravitate to simplify and simplify as you go along.

Welcome!

If you wanna make bacon crispsy and not soggy or burnt, this is how you do it...

- you put a bit of water instead of oil/fat, let the bacon boil a bit and it's own fat render out, wait for the water to evaporate
- when the water evaporates, the bacon will already be cooked, so now you're just waiting for it to crisp up.

Works like a charm.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Have been eating pretty much the same thing every day so far for convenience. Going to experiment a lot more at the weekends.

I was expecting to feel really tired with a headache this week due to carb withdrawal but so far feel rather good.

Apologies for the delayed response. I'm still keeping things really simple although I have added some cheese into some of my meals which doesn't seem to be upsetting anything. I've lost 2 1/2 stone (35lbs/16kgs) in total and feel great.

I'm not 100% Paleo as I will cheat occassionally at the weekends but I balance this out by being very strict with my eating during the week. I'm going to mantain my weight as it is until after christmas and in the new Year I intend to shed the last of my unwanted body fat. I believe another 10lbs off should show some abs.

My mother has also recently started to eat Paleo and she really loves it. She's lost a bit of weight and says she hasn't felt so good in a long time.
