Down to Earth
« on: October 25, 2010, 03:35:29 AM »
Please critique my journal. My goal is to lose BF. I am 25 years old and 24% at 158lbs female. Goal BF for this month 21% by Thanksgiving! I have been eating like this for two weeks already and haven't lost weight but I actually feel smaller, not by much but a little around my waist. I may be eating too little. I Don't know!!!! Help!

Food Journal: Breakfast 25 October 11:30

3.5 oz Lean Top Round Steak 110/18/0/4
2 Eggs 140/12/0/9
1/2 cup Egg Whites 60/12/0/0
1 cup chopped peppers 50/2/10.5/0
1 TBS Almond butter 100/3/3/8
TOTAL: 458/47/13/21

Breakfast is sometimes the same, about 3-4 days a week. After this meal I do not feel full but satisfied. Usually after I eat breakfast I don't get hungry for about 3-4 hours. If I workout and lift weights after breakfast I will eat 2-3 hours after this meal. I measure everyhing RAW before I cook it. Next meal will be posted soon!

To lose weight I would cut out nut products 100%.  And I would stick to whole eggs, not just the whites, as the fat is your friend as counter-intuitive as it may sounds. Eat at least 2 full meals per day. Avoid dairy and fruit if able.

Here are the rest of the days meals. I precook them before I head to work. Working 12's for the next two weeks...should be interesting.

Meal 2:
5 oz Lean Ground Beef 230/37/0/8.5
1/2 Avocado 160/2/8.5/15
1.5 cups Spinach Leaves 35/2/9/0

TOTAL: 425/41/17.5/23.5

Meal 3: Post Workout
5 oz Tilapia 135/28/0/2.5
1 cup green beans 44/2.5/10/0
1/2 cup carrots 25/.5/6/0
1 tbs. Olive Oil 120/0/0/14

TOTAL: 324/31/16/16.5

Meal 4:
2.5 os chicken breast 120/22/0/3
12 small Asparagus Spears 40/4/7.5/0
1 tbs. Olive Oil 120/0/0/14

TOTAL: 280/26/7.5/17

Daily Totals: 1487/145/54/78 Calories/Protein/Carb/Fat

Rough estimate about 1500 calories, 145 grams protein, 54 carbs, and 78 fats.

What do you think?

I drink A LOT of water. I have a 32 oz bottle and always at least drink 3-4 a day and about 1-2 during a workout. I only drink tea every once in a while, no coffee.

Question: Some people say to eat more nuts because it is fat. Or is it the carbs in the almonds that are bad? This confuses me. I can switch to another type of nut, sunflower seeds?

Yes, they have good fats, but they are also calorie dense. I would just stick to meats and veggies if you want to see some progress by Thanksgiving. It's hard, but worth it.

Okay. I've been reading about lectins, I had no clue they were so harsh on your body...wow!

I would cut the green beans as they are not paleo.

Almonds do have some carbohydrate, but their fat doesn't have a great omega 3:6 ratio either, if I recall correctly.  The avocados also are not ideal.  Ideally, you should be getting most of your fat from animal sources.

You should replace the lean ground beef with the fattiest ground beef you can find.  Replace the chicken breasts with chicken legs with the skin on, as the legs will have more fat, or at least make sure you eat the breasts with the skin on.  I don't know the fat content of tilapia, but salmon with the skin on might be better.  Ideally you'd use grass fed beef, pastured chicken, and wild fish, but even with commercial meat, fatty is better than lean.

That should get you enough animal fats that you can cut down on the almonds and avocados.

Warren Dew: Thank you for the info. I will shop for fattier cuts of meat. As for the avocado and almonds - should I just drop these or have a serving once or twice a week to keep variety in? Doesn't matter to me. At this point I'll do anything. I already threw out my jar of Peanut Butter. I NEVER throw peanut butter away...Love it too much! These sacrifices will be worth it. Once I get to my desired goal, can I reintroduce items in occasionally?

Wow, today was crazy! Missed breakfast which NEVER happens. Had 2 packs tuna and handful of almonds for lunch, and about 5 oz chicken breast for dinner with 1 tbs. olive oil over spinach leaves. I am SO EXHAUSTED! Tomorrow will be a much smoother day with wayyyyy more food! Bed time for me now though..ZZZzzz...

I think counting carbs is more important than calories with regards to weightloss, but even that is not so necessary. Just try to eat more fatty meat and eggs than anything else and you should be right.

With regards to the egg whites, are you throwing a yolk away or using some sort of commercially produced egg white? To me throwing away the yolk is like cooking up a nice juicy steak and a side of veggies, and throwing the steak in the bin.
