DTSMA68's Food Journal
« on: January 23, 2010, 11:15:23 AM »
My goal is to get lean and get all of the sugar out of my life. I've been on a combination of ZC, low carb, Belly fat Cure, South Beach since Christmas and I have lost 16 pounds.
I am currently 170lbs and 5' 11". I was a avid runner until November when I developed tendonitis in my lower leg. I have been doing some intermittent fasting and my leg feels better. Might go out for 3 miles later. I have no known diseases except acid reflux. I drink lots of coffee straight and red wine/light beer.

Lately I have been listening to Paleo Solutions Podcast and reading stuff on PaNu.com.

What worries me the most about this diet so far is that I cannot afford grass-fed beef. There is a farm near me in Spring Hill, FL, but I calculated a quarter of a cow would cost about $600. I started taking 2-3 g Fish oil with meals, but it gives me bad stomach cramps. When eating SAD, I never had that problem. So how can I balance out my Omega-6s? Omega-3 eggs? sardines? wild salmon once a week?

This morning I had:
2 eggs, 1/4 cup of cheddar cheese, crumbled pork sausage fried in Ghee and three 3g Carlson's fish oil.

According to FitDay, my weekly average is  Protein is 30%, Carbs 12%, Fats 58%. I haven't been adding fruit, but I do have frozen raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries.

Is there a sample 7 day menu plan on the internet? Or is there a person on here who follows it to a T and writes it down?

All of those are good.

Well, Tarlach eats about 2 lb of beef each day and not much else.

I used to have tendinitis in one arm; gelatin seemed to help.

Do you like sardines or herring? You could snack on those for omega 3 until you can get some grassfed or pastured meats. There's places online you can purchase grassfed meats from too, www.grasslandbeef.com is one.

Your macronutrient ratios sound good.

I eat a mostly meat/organ diet with eggs; with seasonal additions of chestnuts, some small amounts of rose hip jam (for vitamin C) and very small amounts of nuts. You can see pics and details of all my meals in my journal.

I also often eat lamb, pork, fish, chicken, or other seafood  ;)

...but yeah it's pretty much just one meal of 2lb of meat each day.

Yesterday, Sunday, I had eggs and smoked Pork for breakfast.

Lunch: Smoked pork with mayo and North Carolina SF BBQ sauce on Sandwich thins (I bought these thins a while ago and just using them up)

Rode the bike 16 miles - average speed 16.9 mph in heavy crosswinds

Dinner: Low Carb chili with smoked pork with sour cream and cheese: http://www.recipezaar.com/Low-Carb-Chili-67654. I used 1.5 lbs of smoked pork, added another can of diced tomatoes with jalapenos, used a pepper and onion stirfry for peppers, used fresh mushrooms, added a small onion, and used chicken broth instead of water. It was very good.

I am fasting today starting at 6pm last night - probably 18 hours.

Did a Men's Health TNT Workout this morning.

Ran 3 miles this evening in 24:26 / 8:08. I keep getting faster. I run every other two days. I'm trying to run on day, then workout with dumbells the next day, and then ride the bike the third day.

My macronutrient intake today 9 / 28 / 63 (carb / Pro / Fat).

I got a new scale today. My 6 year old Tanita scale was acting funny. I bought a Weight Watchers scale by Conair that measures BF lbs, BF%, water %, and Bone mass %. Of course, it's telling me that I am 1.5 pounds heavier.  :-\ I'll adjust my numbers. It just means that I was 187.5 pounds when I started and I was 168.3 this morning.

Thanks Marika ... Performed a Men's Health TNT Workout B this morning. I am currently in my 17th hour of my fast except for a tin of Oscar King Med. Style sardines at 7pm after my 3 mile run. I am going to try 24 hours today. I'll probably going to drink some Diet Mountain Dews. They help me get through the fast. Diet soda may be bad, but I sit at a desk all day with no people interaction.

Morning - Three VPX Redline caps and Phylum Husks

Dinner 4pm - LC Chicken and cheese enchilada

And maybe 1/2 of a London broil when I get home.

Are you drinking the sodas because you're hungry? Or just out of boredom?

Mostly boredom or maybe anxiety? I usually drink straight coffee and I roast my own raw green coffee beans. Lately, just been lazy and the diet soda is easier to grab.

Just be aware that diet soda is definitely nonpaleo.  Among other concerns, artificial sweeteners can cause insulin spikes even if they don't have any calories.

Well you're definitely not eating Paleo yet.

Cream cheese, sandwich thins, sour cream, tortilla, diet soda. All very non paleo, especially the sandwich thins.
