Susan's Food Journal / Swollen feet and ankles
« on: April 24, 2012, 09:06:00 PM »
I have been following this plan for about 2 weeks.

I was doing pretty well until yesterday, when I noticed my feet and ankles were swollen and they still are today.   Also, I have read this would help me with my energy level, which is always low.  I do have sleep apnea, which doesn't help in this arena, and the CPAP does no good.   I haven't noticed any increase in energy yet.  But I do know that 2 weeks in isn't very long.   I also have high blood pressure, which I am on medication for, and low thyroid, which I am on medication for.  On the good side I am noticing no food cravings, and less gas.

But what I am concerned about is the swollen feet and ankles.  I started this food journal in hopes that someone here can give me some advice what might be going on in this area.

I am going to be stopping adding the sea salt to the recipes, to see if this helps.  Previously, I never really added much salt, only what was in the food.  But I ate a lot of frozen foods that always showed a ton of sodium in the ingredients.

Monday 4/23/12:

Breakfast:  2 Hard boiled eggs; 1 oz. pineapple.
Lunch:  Salad (mixed lettuces, tomato, and red bell pepper); 1 Tbl. salad dressing (olive oil, balsamic vinegar, spices, raw honey); Lamb with Vegies (3 oz. lamb, brussel sprounts, red bell pepper,  sea salt, spices, cooked in coconut oil).
Dinner:  Pork Sausage Pattie (4 oz. ground pork, egg, sea salt spices, cooked in olive oil); Cauliflower with Tahini Sauce (Cauliflower seasoned with olive oil, and ground cumin, then Tahini Sauce (tahini, lemon juice, garlic, water).
Snack:  1 cup Cantalope Melon.

Tuesday, 4/24/12:

Breakfast:   Pork Sausage Pattie (4 oz. ground pork, egg, sea salt, spices, cooked in olive oil; 1 cup Cantalope Melon.
Lunch:  Chicken with vegies 1/4 chicken, (marinated in olive oil, lemon juice, sea salt, black pepper,)  Canned tomatoes, onion, olives, spices.
Dinner:  Lamb with Veggies (3 oz. lamb, brussell sprouts, red bell pepper, sea salt, spices, cooked in coconut oil).

I would really appreciate hearing from someone in this forum.

Thank you.

Susan

Food looks pretty good, but it all looks quite lean. I'd not change anything just yet though, as you're only two weeks in. Keep at it for a couple weeks more then start tweaking things if you're still feeling tired.

Thing is, nothing is going to stop you feeling tired if you're not sleeping. Paleo may help with the sleep as it reduces inflammation. What is the stated cause of your sleep apnea? Is surgery an option?

Mystery solved!  I brought up the fact in a previous post that my feet and ankles and calves were swollen.  It turns out it is caused by the new high blood pressure medication I was on.  I co-worker said she had been on the same medication and it caused swelling for her.  So, I called my doctor and he called in another medication to try.

Now, here is my Food Journal for

Wednesday 4/25/12:

Breakfast:  4 oz Sausage Breakfast Patty (ground pork, egg, sea salt, spices, cooked in olive oil); 1 cup Cantalope Melon.
Lunch:  Chicken with Vegetables (1/4 chicken, onion, tomatoes, olives, marinated in olive oil, lemon, salt and pepper, garlic, spices.
Dinner:  5 oz. Salmon (with lemon juice, dill, sea salt and pepper); Vegies (zuccini, red bell pepper, crimini mushrooms, sauted in olive oil, lemon, garlic, basil, sea salt, and pepper).

I hope everyone is having a great Paleo day!

Susan

Here is what I had to eat today Thursday, 4/26/12

Breakfast:  4 oz. Pork Breakfast Sausage (ground pork, egg, sea salt, pepper, spices, cooked in olive oil); 1 cup Cantalope Melon.
Lunch:  1/4 Chicken with Vegies (chicken, canned tomatoes, onions, black olives, lemon juice, sea salt, pepper, garlic, spices, olive oil.
Dinner:  4 oz. Salmon (salmon, lemon juice, sea salt, pepper, dill); Vegies (crimini mushrooms, red bell pepper, zuccinni, garlic, basil, cooked in olive oil.

I think I may have found suet for making tallow, just waiting to hear back from Circle Key Farms.
