Eating Too Much??
« on: September 01, 2011, 07:35:18 AM »
Hi All,

I have been eating Paleo for about a year.  Love it.  I am 34, 5'3, and weigh 128lbs.  BF is apprx 17%.   I crossfit 5 x a week, mountain bike (XC) 3 x a week and run at least 1/2 x a week.  Not training for anything, just love being active.

Below is a sample of a very typical day of eating for me.  Average approximate caloric intake is around 1800.  What i am wondering is am I eating too much, or too much of the wrong thing?  Any feedback would be great.  Note, all of my meats are either grass-fed/finished or organic.  All my veggies are either out of my garden or organic store bought.

Breakfast (6am):  Meat patty (buffalo or pork), 1 or 2 eggs, all cooked in coconut oil, black tea

Snack (9-10am):  Apple (don't always have this, but if i do, that is what it is)

Lunch:(12pm):  Salad (mixed leaves, 1/4 avocado, shredded carrots, cabbage, cut up chicken (breast, leg or thigh), tablespoon of cranberries, some toasted pecans or sunflower seeds and EVOO)

Pre-Crossfit Snack (430pm):  Smoothie (1/2 cup berries, 3T coconut milk, water)

Dinner (7pm): Full Fat Meat (pork, beef, salmon, tuna, chicken), veggies

Snack (8pm):  Apple & almond butter (if i haven't eaten it in morning) OR handful of pecans or macadamia nuts

Looks OK to me.  Smoothie is not Paleo but I done see how it could hurt you.
No expectations, no disappointments!

Question why would the smoothie not be paleo?  Because it is blended?  All ingredients are in, no?

looks pretty exemplary to me!  Why do you think you are eating too much?

If your food needs a prefix, it's not paleo!

Paleo is whole foods.  Technically cavemen did not have blenders...  ::)

I find myself hungry often.  I have reviewed a lot of the food journals for gals and it seems that they eat much less then i do and wondered if perhaps i am eating too much.

If you're low carb, you can trust your hunger.  I eat about 1500 cals a day but I'm only 5'1'' and do not exercise nearly on the level that you do.  I was going to say that 1800cals looks like too little, not too much!  17% bf is pretty damn lean for a woman as well  ;)

I'd probably say, if you're going to eat more cals, make them meat cals.  More nutrients

I am low carb.  I keep my carb levels to around 50g/day.  Sometimes it goes over, but usually around there.  Most of cals come from meat and fat now...with carbs coming from veggies, fruit, nuts/seeds.

Very nice, i'm using a 2008 Commencal Team Supreme 6 for any downhill and freeriding, and have just bought a 2011 NS Core 2 for XC, but it's big enough as well to handle a beating!
