But, but... you have to have a barbeque and eat lamb for Oz Day......or maybe one of our national emblems, kangaroo or emu (lolol)

Haha! :D  What's the official word on eating kangaroo on Paleo?  Is it too lean?  I'm not really a fan of it anyway (it smells) but I'm interested to know.

Yesterday:  I haven't got much of an appetite (yesterday and today)... personal problems are contributing, I think.  I honestly think stress is a big factor in making my body hold weight... I'm really trying to relax and chill out in the circumstances.

Breakfast: wasn't hungry until very late, about 11:30am - 1 slice roasted fatty pork belly, one cup of chai tea with coconut cream

Lunch: (late again - 3pm) - slice of watermelon first, then 2 slices of fatty roasted pork belly, and one boiled egg

Pre-dinner snack - small handful of raw, unsalted macadamia nuts

Dinner: (8:30pm) - very large (over 400g) rib fillet steak, rare, cooked in lard.  one whole small head of steamed broccoli, and one small raw capsicum.

Today... haven't eaten anything yet (it's 12pm)... I'm starting to get hungry now so I'll eat soon.

As of this morning the scale says I'm 0.6kg lighter than this time last week :)

I really didn't have much of an appetite yesterday... things aren't going well in my personal life at this moment and I think it's killing my appetite (normally it increases my appetite when something goes wrong?  Maybe my hunger is settling?)

Yesterday - 31 Jan 2012

No breakfast

Lunch (12pm)
I cooked up a batch of 500g organic beef mince with an onion, 2 garlic cloves, one bunch of chopped pak choy (leaves and stems), sea salt and then cracked and mixed three eggs into it.  I ate half of this mixture for my lunch (el blando, but filled me up).  Then I had a chai tea with coconut cream.

Afternoon meal (4pm)
I had one medium banana with two teaspoons of almond butter, then I had the rest of the mince and egg mixture.

At night (about 8pm) I wasn't that hungry at all - I had a medium handful of raw, unsalted macadamia nuts (about 8 whole nuts) and plenty of water.  I was very thirsty, not hungry.

-------------------------------------------------------

Today: 1 Feburary 2012

Breakfast: This morning I had two boiled eggs, and about 100mL of coconut milk (pure, canned) mixed with 3 heaped teaspoons of 180 Nutrition protein powder.  I know that it's not ideal to eat protein powder, especially when you exercise lightly like me, but I feel very wasteful if I don't finish the tub.  I originally bought it when my digestive system was at its worst; I found it one of the things I could eat (with coconut milk, raw milk or unsweetened homemade almond milk) without getting bad pain or bloating.
Will it hurt if I eat it once or twice a week, in terms of energy/digestion/insulin levels?  Happy to drop a little bit of fruit intake in exchange, or be stricter with 'cheats', if necessary.  These are the ingredients: http://www.180nutrition.com.au/ingredients/ (I know grass-fed whey, yeast, psyllium husk are all Paleo no-nos, and it's full of other seeds/nuts), and here is the nutritional information: http://www.180nutrition.com.au/nutritional-information/.  I don't have a full serve (50g); I estimate I take about 25-30 grams whenever I have it.  Thanks in advance for any advice! :)

Snacks so far: green tea with lemon myrtle, and a black coffee.

Yesterday: 1 February 2012

Breakfast: (as above).

Morning snacks: green tea with lemon myrtle, black coffee

1pm snack: 1 boiled egg, 4 Brazil nuts.

Lunch (just before 3pm): half a large tin of red salmon (approx 200g) - all bones and skin consumed.  Coffee with coconut milk.
(I normally don't drink this much coffee, but I was just given a fancy new machine as a gift and it's a novelty atm)

After work: went for a relaxing hour-long walk; a few steep hills but overall it was leisurely.  Wasn't so much for the 'exercise' as much as it was to clear my head and look at some nice scenery.  Sat down and snacked on a nashi towards the end.

Dinner: 3 lamb loin chops cooked with a bit of lard and salted (all fat, meat, and stray bits of marrow eaten), half a raw celery stick, steamed wedge of pumpkin and a cup of steamed cabbage with organic butter.

and plenty of filtered water throughout the day.  I noticed I am super thirsty for cold, cold water in the evenings now, which is opposite to how I usually am.  Normally I am thirsty through the day and that tapers off at night.

Yesterday - 2 February 2012

Breakfast: (not hungry) Coffee with coconut milk

Lunch (12pm): 3 lamb loin chops (leftovers that were cooked in lard) with fat, and leftover steamed cabbage and wedge of steamed pumpkin with butter

Late afternoon meal (3:30pm) Roasted rack of lamb!!! So tasty.  With a salad of spinach leaves, cos lettuce, avocado and cucumber in lemon juice and olive oil dressing.  The lamb rack was marinated in sweet chilli sauce which is no good, but I was having a meal with my mum and that was what she cooked :)

I really wasn't hungry after that, so I had no dinner.  I did munch on one celery stick at night and drank a lot of water... I was more thirsty than anything.  Personal life is in an absolute shambles at the moment, and I feel like it's killing my appetite and my interest in food.   :blank:

Today: 3 February 2012

I have had one Earl Grey tea, and I panfried a salmon fillet in butter and a drop of olive oil to prevent burning (I've run out of ghee), and scrambled two eggs in the same pan, with butter.  I ate those at about 10:30; about two hours ago.

Hi. Sorry to hear about your personal life. That's no fun at all. I was having a crap day the other day and I ate some bad food and felt worse, mentally that is. The next day I ate paleo and felt a lot better mentally and physically. Stay strong Claves. I wish you all the best.  ;D

Thank you for the kind words everyone.  Things have vastly improved over the weekend and I'm still working it all out... feeling much better and I'm so happy that I have the energy and determination to keep improving my situation now :)

Friday: 3 February 2012

Breakfast: Earl Grey tea, panfried a salmon fillet in butter and a drop of olive oil  and scrambled two eggs in the same pan, with butter.

Snack: Peppermint tea

Lunch: 3 chicken livers, sauteed with garlic and spinach, 1 can sugar-free lemonade

Snack: 1 sliced lady finger banana with scoop of double cream

Exercise: short walk at a moderate pace (mainly to clear the head)

Dinner (quite late, dining out again - Asian) - large portion of crispy skin chicken (half breast plus leg/thigh), steamed bok choy and steamed carrots.

After dinner: small full-cream milk flat white coffee

----------------------------------------

Saturday: 4 February 2012

Breakfast (mid-morning, at a cafe): I ordered a meat-heavy breakfast that came with: 2 lamb loin chops, bacon, grilled mushrooms, 2 poached eggs, and 2 large Italian sausages (filler-free, gluten-free) and toast.  I ditched the toast and ate everything else except the lamb chops, which my boyfriend happily ate.  I could not stomach them, the smell was really off-putting as I've eaten a lot of lamb lately.  Everything else was delicious though.
I also had a bottle of San Pellegrino and a black coffee with a small jug of single cream.

Didn't eat lunch as we were on a road trip and didn't stop... wasn't all that hungry until dinner rolled around anyway.  I did have a bottle of diet peach iced tea (gotta get off the artificial sweeteners; I've started having diet drinks in the week or so and it's not good!) and a large bottle of water... and had a bit of a nice walk around some national parks and through some rockpools.

We were still out of town when it was dinnertime and were underdressed for most places, so we went to Hog's Breath again.  I had the traditional cut rib fillet steak rare, with 1/4 of a large avocado and bearnaise sauce, steamed carrots and broccoli.  I ignored the corn cob and the order came with buttered mashed potatoes.  I ate approx 2 tablespoons of the enormous pile, which I enjoyed, but the steak and vegies were plenty to keep me full.

----------------------------------------

Sunday: 5 February 2012

Breakfast: a lady finger banana with a scoop of double cream

Lunch: a gourmet beef burger (ordered without the bun) at my sister's cafe - 100% beef patty, tomato, grated beetroot, grated carrot, two slices of double cream camembert, two slices of bacon and rocket in a stack, with sliced cucumber and snow pea shoots on the side.  Plus a long black coffee with a small jug of lovely local Guernsey cream (the cream is so buttery, delicious and yellow)

Snack: flesh of a large mango with a scoop of double cream

Dinner (Sunday night dinner with boyfriend's family): roast chicken (wing and breast) with skin, small cobbette of corn, steamed broccoli, roasted carrot and roasted pumpkin

Snack before bed: 1 slice strong cheddar cheese

I think I hit the fruit 'overdose' yesterday... and probably the double cream overdose too hehe.

Yesterday: 6 Feb 2012

Breakfast: Homemade chicken soup with carrots, celery and turnip.  I ate one chicken leg and one chicken thigh.  Then one and a half small (ping-pong ball sized) passionfruits.

Lunch: 4 Brazil nuts, more Homemade chicken soup with carrots, celery and turnip.  I ate one chicken leg, one chicken thigh, and half a chicken wing.  I melted two teaspoons of butter into the soup too because the chicken was skinless.  Then ate one small passionfruit.

Snack: I was FAMISHED when I got home - I had a large mango and a lady finger banana, chopped into a bowl with a scoop of double cream.

Exercise: went for a moderate-paced walk for 75 minutes around the city with my boyfriend (he seems to walk really slowly... he's a lot taller than I am so his stride is bigger, but he is the one that seems to have to keep up with me?   And then he complains that I "hold him back" and that he "used to walk so fast when he exercised regularly"... what?  Can't say I believe that ;) ).  I like that I actually FEEL like going out and being active when I'm on this diet.

Dinner: 1 duck breast portion (half a breast - skin and meat) cooked in its own fat, lightly steamed cabbage and broccoli with a spoonful of the duck fat from the pan poured over them.

Today - 7 February 2012

Breakfast: 2 soft-boiled eggs, about 60g smoked salmon, organic chai tea

Lunch: Ox tail soup (YUM, one of my favourites as a child, and one of the few things I missed as a vegan) made with ox tail, carrots, celery, onion, garlic, salt and water (slow-cooked for 9 hours, then cooled, the excess fat skimmed off and then reheated and simmered another hour... I prefer skimming off the excess fat from the broth or I feel a bit ill.  There's still plenty of fat left on the meat and there's some in the broth too).  I ate a big bowl of broth with vegetables in it, and two large pieces of ox tail.

Snack: peppermint tea, 4 Brazil nuts

Snack (when I got home from work I was a little bit hungry, and I knew I wasn't able to eat dinner for at least 2.5 hours): 2 slices Bega extra-sharp cheddar cheese

Dinner (dining out): Thai chicken skewer (without the satay sauce), Diet Coke (arghhh), full serve of grilled "Tiger" steak served rare (sliced rare steak, served with a very hot and very sour dipping sauce), full serve of steamed vegetables (cauliflower, Asian greens, green beans, broccoli, zucchini and carrot).  And a quarter of an orange which was a garnish.

Yesterday - 8 February 2012... argh a bit of a blowout!  Was craving cheese like mad!

Breakfast: leftover duck breast portion (with skin, cooked in its own fat), one medium raw carrot, about a third of a large avocado

Snack: 3 Brazil nuts, peppermint tea

Lunch: leftover ox tail soup - 1 large bowl broth, a few pieces of carrot and turnip, and two large pieces of ox tail

Snack (at work): large mango

Snack (at home): 2 slices extra-sharp cheddar, 6 macadamia nuts

Exercise: mid-paced walk for 45 minutes, holding a heavy umbrella  ;D

Dinner: one grass-fed rib fillet steak cooked in lard and served medium-rare (usually have it rare but I cooked it too long), 1 can sugar-free lemonade, 2 slices extra-sharp cheddar, 1 wedge triple-cream brie

... I really need to go fruit and vegetable shopping.

Question: I've noticed over this period of recording my food diary, I seem to be snacking a lot more than many of you?  Does this mean I'm not eating enough at meals?  The problem is I am (and have always been) able to put away HUGE portions of meals if I let myself, which definitely contributes to me being on the bigger side.  I'm one of those people who don't look quite as heavy as I am.  I allegedly have a 'large' bone structure and very much a pear shape, a surprising amount of strength for someone who doesn't do much exercise and has a sedentary job, but I also definitely hold quite a lot of fat on my body and need to lose quite a bit of it (a typical Kapha-Pitta combination body in Ayurvedic terms, haha).  I read some of your journals (including the tall men with large-builds) and it honestly sounds like I eat more than most of you on most days :-\

I have lost a little bit of weight and my stomach problems have improved tenfold, but it's so hard not to question what I'm doing... I always want to do better!

My question is: how 'full' are we supposed to get at meals?  Since eating Paleo I've never had that ultra-stuffed, too-much-chickpeas-and-rice feeling after my meals (which is nice, that feeling wasn't good!).  I feel 'satisfied' after meals, but I tend to go looking for more food about 2.5-3 hours later, no matter what I've eaten.  It's not out of boredom or thirst (I drink at least 2L of water a day, plus other teas and the occasional terrible diet softdrink) but genuine hunger.  Should I eat more vegetables at each meal to fill me up?  Or more meat/eggs?  Should I just keep snacking?  Or is it greed, and I should just exercise more willpower?  Thanks in advance :)

Yesterday - 9 February 2012... a few cheats (they're adding up now... even though my stomach is good, I'm going to pull back because it's certainly not helping my weight loss efforts)

Breakfast: 1 chicken thigh cooked in Italian style tomato sauce (which I scraped off for the most part), 3 boiled eggs, 1 large raw carrot

Lunch: Blended smoothie of 2 eggs, 120mL coconut milk, 3 strawberries, 1/4 cup blueberries, and 2 heaped tablespoons of 180 Nutrition powder

Snack: 1 slice aged cheddar

Dinner (dining out - Greek restaurant): Lamb in a bag (lamb pieces with bones, slow-cooked in a paper bag with lots of garlic and lemon slices... delicious!), large Greek salad, half a lemon oregano potato, about 30mL tzatziki, sparkling water

** I did notice the larger breakfast really helped curb my snacking.  Lunch was a last-minute thing as I didn't have much else on hand... was a bit sweet.

Hi Claves, I'm really interested in the answer to this too- as said previously we have similar stats and I'm the same, I'm so used to that bloated-I couldn't eat another thing feeling- I'm wondering how much I can trust myself to know or understand when I am full or when I'm not now as I don't get that feeling anymore (thankfully).

I'm still trying to work it out too, Rubellared :)

My dinners look about the same size as yours but I go for second helpings if I'm doing a big roast (e.g. I start with a quarter but 99% of the time I will eat almost another quarter after I've eaten my first plateful of chicken/veg... too much?  Not sure; I cram my plate with green vegies too, and try to limit the heavier veg like pumpkin), but I think I am eating too many cheat snacks in recent times (too much cheese definitely!! and milk) and it is adding up.  I probably need to eat more vegetables on weekends as well.

Saturday: 11 Feb 2012

Breakfast: a Greek omelette at a cafe (looked like a 3-egg omelette), stuffed with semi-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach and mild fetta, with bacon on the side, and three slivers of watermelon, honeydew and rockmelon on the side.  And a flat white coffee.

Lunch: no lunch

Snack: 30g wedge double camembert

Dinner: dinner for a good friend's birthday party... absolutely delicious.
I ordered 6 natural oysters with lemon as starter, then for main I had seared lamb rack garnished with shredded slow-roasted lamb shoulder, creamed parsnip, parsnip batons, and a spring salad with mixed leaves, pickled baby root vegetables and grilled asparagus with an oil and vinegar dressing.
"Dessert" was a flat white coffee

Night-time snack: 1 slice strong cheddar cheese

-------------------

Sunday, 12 February 2012

Breakfast: flat white coffee, breakfast at a cafe - 2 poached eggs, mushrooms with butter, bacon, a lamb and rosemary sausage, and grilled tomato.  And a sparkling long black (double shot of espresso over cold sparkling water)

No lunch

Snack of 2 slices cheddar cheese

Dinner: roast chicken (2 drumsticks and a piece of breast with skin), plain salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, avocado, alfalfa sprouts), and a square of potato bake with bacon  :( (dinner at my boyfriend's mother's place)
