Food jurnal Please comment!!
« on: November 03, 2011, 11:49:56 AM »
Ok I'm on my 4th day. Just want to make sure I'm getting this right. I read the "Paleo diet" and have the recipe book. After looking through the recipe book I decided a keep it simple aproach would best suit my life style.

Breakfast
2 small pieces of seasons salmon (no salt)
1 1/2 cups of steamed broccoli, cauliflower , carrots mixed
2 scrambled cage free eggs.

Snack
Green apple

Lunch
Grilled turkey breast. (About the size of my hand)
2 cups steamed broccoli, carrots mixed.
1 Orange.

Dinner
Grilled wild caught tunna steak
1 cup Steamed broccoli, cauliflower, carrot mix

Other days I have eaten flank steak and lean porkchops as well.
If this it two simple please let me know.
I just don't have the inclination to cook up all these fancy meals that are in the books. To be honest I feel more like eating cooked meat and vegies. Noti meals I have never heard of. If I could build a fire in the yard and put my meat on a stick I would. Lol.

It looks good!

It is really that simple, meat/fish with veggies. No fancy cooking needed.

Do you feel you are satisfied after a meal? It can sometimes be hard to find the right size of a portion since you probably might eat more meat and more veggies than you are used to.

Maybe you want to get some additional fat, avocado can be used and coconut like in grated coconut, coconut oil, coconut milk.

What do you think is the biggest challenge with starting with paleo?

You are pretty much doing it right, though fattier meats may help if you get hungry.

looks good!  Paleo cooking is simple - meat and veggies - and you have that nailed!

Most of the meats (turkey breast, tuna, lean chops) you're eating are pretty lean which is fine if you're not hungry, but as others have said don't be afraid to eat more fat if you don't feel full - either fattier meat, or some fat on your veggies, or some coconut :)

If your food needs a prefix, it's not paleo!

Thanks for the input!!!! I feel full and satisfied after my meals. After reading on this site for a few days now I also think i should add some additional fat.

I would have to say that the biggest challenge was # 1 the low carb flu. I work out hard. I do mixed martial arts training 5 days a week. I'm on day 7 now and I feel good. But I haven't been to the gym yet, ill be there in about an hour. So I'm hoping I'm back to 100%.  Last week at the gym was absolute hell. I had zero cardio and no strength. And really just felt like shit all day lol. But today is much better.

#2 SALT!!! Not using it to season my meat has been tough.  I was all ways really big on marinating my meats, so breaking away from that has been a challenge, but not a deal breaker by any means.

In my opinion, salt is okay, especially if it isn't too refined.  Paleo man likely ate his meat with a lot more salty blood than we do.

Well that's promising to hear!!!  My goal is weight loss. I'm at 20% body fat. Trying to get it into the sigle digits. I have no real health issues. I had my blood work done about a month ago while eating a very unhealthy diet and the doc said everything looked perfect. So adding some salt here and there would be ok????? Like it wouldn't hender fat loss?
