Hey Kallyn
« on: July 13, 2007, 05:58:11 PM »
I noticed in some of your posts that you are going to try some grass fed meat. I've been trying some and I'd like to know what you think of it. Hubbie notices the smell and taste more than I do. I like using it. Also, he thinks that sometimes if he eats alot of it he gets stomach upset.
In another post, you said that depending on the vegetables you use at a meal, you get GI upset. Wow, I didn't think of that. That's the reason the food journals are really nice to have because sometimes I think I'm either lazy about fixing the same old thing or just not still quite getting the hang of this WOE.

All the meat, except for pork, which is factory farmed, ugh, we get here is grass fed, and I haven't noticed a difference, other than the leanness of the beef.  It is nice to be able to buy it straight from the grocery store, but I imagine that our prices are probably higher than the US.  I pay about 5 or 6 dollars a pound for hamburger and steak is pretty much out of the question except for special occasions.  But we use meat very sparingly in our diet so it isn't much of a hardship.

I think a lot of the intestinal difficulties that people have from cruciferous vegetables can be overcome if you just keep eating them regularly.  It is a question of building up enough bacterial flora in the gut to cope with it.  I eat cabbage pretty much every day at this time of year without any problems whatsoever.  Suze

Hey Thanks Suze,
I have been getting the grass fed meat delivered to my home. It would really be nice to just be able to go to the store for it :) I was thinking that nutritionally the meat along with the extra vegetables may take some getting used to like you said. I just didn't really know how long it took sometimes. And I am not totally Paleo, so didn't know if that made a difference either. I think it's like some people have said before that you kind of learn what works - whether it's cheating on the week-ends or what.  I don't eat grains, dairy or starchy vegetables. I do like some dark chocolate everyday :) so I mostly have a little non Paleo each day.

We haven't eaten the meat yet.  I have the ground beef thawing right now and I'm going to make meat loaf with it tonight.  :)  I'll let you know how we like it.

I really think these internet forums are great.  We get so much more feedback/support/ideas/brainstorming than if we were just going it alone at home!

That is one of the many subtle ways the internet is changing the world for the better.  It has only just begun... Suze
