What are peoples thoughts on only eating once a day? (Dinner after Crossfit) Im just not that hungry anymore...

When I eat once a day, I end up having 2 dinners and messing up my routine a bit: let's say I fast all day (since the previous night). By 6 - 7pm I'm starving so I eat. There's so much I can eat in 1 sitting, so after a while I stop. A couple hours later, I feel hungry again, and eat some more of what I cooked or start messing around with fruit, nuts, or other paleo snacks.

This is probably consistent with paleo practices: hunt, eat until you are full, rest, then eat some more and go to sleep, but it's slightly inconvenient with modern routines.

I love the mid dinner nap!
The answer to your question is 'eat more fat'.

Stop counting calories. If you are eating Paleo, there is usually no need.

If you are having weight loss issues, it'd be a good idea to start posting a detailed food journal, then everyone can help.

'Anecdotal Evidence' is an oxymoron.

Hi Sharky,

How are you going with the weight loss now that you're not so hungry? Also, did you say you were doing Crossfit every night? I'm no crossfit expert but I'd say that's overkill for your body :( A lot of primal people suggest about 3-4 workouts per week.

AllyBelly - Weight loss is going better, especially now that im Crossfitting, 5 times is a lot but I really love it and want to go, it also suppresses my appetite and helps me not eat when im bored.

In saying that, I had a reaaalllly bad fruit binge weekend. I went to the markets and they were selling strawberries, raspberries and blackberries really cheaply so I bought a heap. i also bought some double cream as a treat cheat. I ate way too much and felt so bloated and full, but not satisfied. I also mixed up a topping for the fruit which consisted of 3 eggs, cream and coconut flour mixed together- it tasted like cake batter! So bad and had way too much over Sat and Sun. Well, BACK ON TRACK from today! It feels like ive put on weight and just feel crappy in general. Cant wait to Crossfit tonight, I had the weekend off.

Oh, I went to the butcher and asked for pure fat offcuts (the stuff they throw away). I want to make my own cooking oil, but I fried some up, it was lamb fat, i added some rosemary and had it with mustard... it was sooo good and satisfying, but is it too much for my body to only have fat for a meal and nothing else?

The butcher gave me the weirdest look and asked what I needed it for.. I said soap, I didnt want to be judged! there is such a fat phobia, its so incredible.

Hi Sharky,

This might sound a bit extreme, but using exercise as an appetite suppressant reminds me of people who use diet pills or cigarettes to lose weight. I guess that makes me concerned because you're relying on something external for appetite control rather than finding foods that nourish and sustain you and addressing why boredom causes food cravings.

I also have read that crossfit can cause quite a stress response on the body which can lead to higher than desired cortisol levels in the body. This isn't good for the body or for weight loss.

I think we all have to find our own path in this nutritional jungle but I just wanted to share some of my thoughts.

AllyBelly - Thanks for that, I had a bit of a read online, i might need to add some starchy vegetables when I Crossfit! and reduce it to 4 days a week..

Does he get paid to teach the class?  Just saying he may have a vested interest in getting as many warm bodies there as he can.

I spoke to my trainer and he said, maybe if i was doing intense exercise for 2-3 hours a day then I would be affected, but the 10-20mins of intensity we do everyday is fine- I do feel so much better when I do it..

Food Diary 6.2.12

Morning tea - Ice coffee with coconut milk

Lunch - Large spinach salad, tomato, avocado, red cap and tin of salmon.

Dinner - went out for dinner, had a chicken ceasar salad without croutons and dressing.

So yesterday (7.2.12) I really paid for not having enough meat the day before, when i only had 2 salads. I noticed it big time yesterday because i was hungry all day.

Breakfast - coffee in coconut milk

lunch - lardge salad with tin of salmon
         - cup of raspberries

Afternoon - so hungry, ate 1/2 an avocado and another tin of coconut milk with some raw cocoa powder (as i was at work this was the only thing i was able to get my hands on)

Dinner - sauteed pure lamb fat (white stuff) in a pan and drizzled it over salmon cutlets and then oven baked the salmon with chunks of the lamb fat, and some lemon slices. Had about 1 1/2 cutlets.

           - sauteed green capsicum with garlic powder and chilli
           - roast pumpkin drizzled with some of the lamb fat

My goodness... Ive had SO much food today.. my calories must be like 3000+ today! so here goes...

8.2.12 

Breakfast - leftover salmon and a beef hamburger
               - leftover pumpkin and some sauteed spinach, with chunks of pure fat

Morning tea - coffee with coconut milk
                   - snacked on Kale Chips at my desk, and beef jerky

Lunch          - Usual large salad with tin of salmon

Dinner         - 5 small beef hamburgers
                   - eggplant slices fried in butter/beef lard
                   - leftover pumpkin
                   - chunks of leftover white fat

Feels like ive had a LOT of fat today... im not sure.. what do you guys think? Also, what does everyone think of double cream?

Double cream is very delicious, but not paleo.  :(  The Primal people think some dairy is OK, so it really depends whose philosophy you want to follow.  I'd say a little bit, every now and then wouldn't hurt, but you shouldn't make it an every day thing.

Ugh I am so hungry at the moment! Food intake not so good and very high...

Food diary 9.2.12

Breakfast - 2 boiled eggs
               - 3 slices smoked salmon
               - Bowl of berries with coconut flour
               - Handful of macadamia nuts

Morning tea - Coffee in coconut milk

Lunch      - Large salad with tin of salmon and anchovies

Dinner     -Wasnt hungry after Crossfit so i had 2 slices of smoked salmon and some beef jerky

Later in the evening (round 11pm) started to get hungry but had no food on hand so had a handful of macadamia nuts and bowl of berries with coconut flour.

Im feeling hungry all throughout the day, and i know what im doing wrong (not enough animal fat), but just havnt got around to going to the butcher and getting some so have just been eating what ive got on hand... big fat shop on the weekend...

Im eating way too much fruit also, but because i am Crossfitting 5 times a week is that ok? source of carbs and glucose?

Breakfast this morning was a handful of macadamia nuts and bowl of berries, then get to work and someone brought in plums so have been eating those.. as well as my coffee in coconut milk.. still hungry!!

I am not a fan of Xfit....  They favor speed over form and that is NEVER good or safe.  For weight loss cut back on fruit SUGAR....  SUGAR is poison...period.  A bit of fruit is OK but too much can be bad....  As far as exercise goes, I am a big fan of lifting weights using good form with progressive increase in weight each time by a small amount....

Yeah i need to cut the fruit again totally to come off it, its actually giving me a stomach ache... Not feeling great!

I love Xfit- i actually want to go 6 times a week, im so addicted. Our trainer focuses more on form and im lifting very little compared to everyone else because im new, he gives me the bare minimum and wants me to slowly build up. Not sure what other instructors are like, but mine is very helpful and wants me to build up layers slowly, he said it might take 6-12 months for me to do the rxds. When everyone else does overhead sqauts, I do normal sqaut just to make sure i ace them first, then move on.
