Jamie's 30 Day Paleo Diet Challenge
« on: May 14, 2009, 03:09:44 PM »
I've been on and off this diet for quite a long while, but I always end up having cheats and falling off of it. I see a lot of success, then I sabotage the diet and end right back at square one. Having said that, this time around I am going to go completely Paleo without any cheats, for 30 days, to see the true results. After one month of going completely Paleo, I may or may not decide to reintroduce a weekly cheat meal into the plan.

Doing an online journal is like making a public commitment, and it will help me stay focused. I will post my daily meal plan to show others what I am eating. I will also post my daily weight to show you how much I've lost. If I incorporate some exercise, it will also be included. I think it's also important that I report the challenges I face, and the emotions that will surface during the transition. Yesterday was my first day, so there will be one post now, and another post later tonight.

Thanks for Reading! -Jamie

*Note* Since I don't have planned meals, I am only posting what I've consumed throughout the course of the day.

DAY 1 - 05/13 (Weight 167 lbs)

1 can of Albacore Tuna with Salt-Free Seasoning and a bit of Mustard
2 Baked Boneless Free Range Chicken Thighs, brushed with Olive Oil and battered in Almond Meal
1 cup of an Asian Vegetable Medley
2 cups of Herbal Tea (Cherry Cinnamon, Apple Chamomile)

It doesn't sound like much food, but I was satisfied and didn't feel hungry for anymore food.

Go for it Jamie.  Best of luck with your challenge!  I'm sure we can manage to help you out  ;D

If you have been eating carbs a lot lately you will go into sugar withdrawl shortly.  Have a lot of good snacks around (ie nuts or jerky) to keep you from getting worked up about sugar  ;)

If weight loss is a goal, then try to keep your carbs low (about 100gm a day) and eat plenty of good fat.  Grass fed steak is the best!

Strength training also helps.  Doing even a few big body movements (ie squats) will get the hormones flowing to aid weight loss (and help build muscle!).

Jamie your 30 day challenge is a great idea!  I was going to mention a little exercise too.  Working on the muscles at the same time can really help keep the diet motivation going.  good luck! :)

Thanks for the support! I'm including my exercise in my latest post from today. I didn't work out the first two days. However, today I had the energy to work it out, and it felt great!  ;D

Good work James! Don't get discouraged if you weight loss isn't as dramatic in the times ahead. Focus on the journey and not the destination.

Turbo Jam will surely get you metabolism cranking. Have you been going dancing at all?

Keep up the good work!

Thanks Wlfdg!

I haven't went out to any nightclubs for dancing lately. I've decided to stay away from bars and nightclubs until I am finished with my challenge. The reason being that I am not drinking alcohol, and I don't want to be around it right now. However, I would like to take some dancing lessons one day! I just have to find myself a good partner and some extra cash first! Haha!  :P

I weighed 162 lbs again this morning, but I am still pleased. I think the first few pounds have been mostly water weight. I am definitely focusing more on the journey instead of the weight loss. The weight loss is going to be the added bonus!

On a side note, I am wondering... Is it normal to not need to sleep as much as you usually do? I've been staying up really late, almost having to force myself to go to sleep, then only sleeping for 5 or 6 hours. Before I started this, I was sleeping for hours and hours. Haha!

DAY 4 - 05/16 - 162 lbs

I did Turbo Jam and another 30 minute walk today.

I went to an Asian Market, bought dried jack fruit, dried red onions, green tea powder coated pumpkin seeds, jasmine tea, and two types of slimming green tea. I also went to purchase my first bit of Matcha Green Tea powder, which I enjoyed when I got home.

1 large romaine salad with chopped bell pepper, cucumber, red onion, olives, mushrooms, hamburger meat, seasoning, and balsamic salad dressing made with olive oil
1 raspberry slush made with ice, pomegranate white tea, stevia, and organic raspberries
1 bowl of red curry chicken from yesterday's leftovers
Matcha green tea, slimming green tea, jasmine tea, and water
Pumpkin seeds, dried Jack Fruit, and a little bit of dried onion as snacks

I experienced a lot of high energy after my work outs today. I was dancing and singing in my car on the way to meet my friend. I've felt so happy lately, it's great!  :)

Jamie…I adapted your burger recipe the other night (didn’t have all ingredients you did) to make a meat loaf, yum!  Chalene has high energy for sure!  I’ve not done her TJ but I’m doing her Chalean Extreme workout right now.  Glad your finding some new energy and congrats on the weight loss you’re seeing! ;D

Aww thanks! That makes me feel good to know someone tried a recipe I created. It's awesome that you're working out with Chalene too! Keep up the good work!

DAY 5 - 05/17 - 161 lbs

1 cup of Matcha Green Tea
2 scrambled eggs with bell pepper/onion/jalapeno/salsa
1 cup of Ginger Tea
1 flax/sunflower/hemp/pumpkin/honey snack bar
1 handful of banana chips with guacamole and salsa
1/2 sliced cucumber
1 lb of baked chicken tenders marinated in Frank's hot sauce, with a side of Organicville (Gluten/Dairy Free) Ranch Dressing

I did Turbo Jam and Yoga today for my exercise. I haven't been sleeping very much, but I feel quite tired tonight, so I think it's finally caught up with me. I decided to lay off of the green tea in the latter part of the day so I could fall asleep more easily. I'm hoping that I won't gain weight after having all that chicken and the Ranch dressing. The dressing is about as Paleo as you can get, and I just had to have something to dip my buffalo tenders in. The dressing tastes alright, but I probably won't buy it again. Next time I'll just go without any dressing at all.
