'Tis changed!  ;D

UGH I so know what you mean about those caffeine withdrawal headaches.  They make me want to crawl under a rock.

What's strange is that I've always reacted to caffeine adversely. When I've tried to use it in the past -- even in high school and college -- to stay away and study, etc... it backfires. I would get a headache, feel crappy, and just want to lay down and go to bed. Totally opposite of what I was going for!!

I guess I'm glad caffeine doesn't sit well with me because it doesn't sound fun to kick the habit. Good luck!!  :P

Some people have that reaction to hot drinks. Were you drinking coffee or colas?
Also the sugar rush from colas put some people to sleep. They feel more energy briefly then feel drowsy.

I have one or two cups of coffee in the morning.

My adverse reaction is in general blind to type of beverage. I can drink a cup of coffee and be OK... and one soda... but I will feel strange for a while. Once I start getting to that 2nd cup of coffee or soda I really feel weird. I'm sure the sugar deserves some blame as well! :)

I'm going to keep trying to kick it.  Now I'm starting to focus on money issues as well - I mean think how much money I can save if I don't buy those expensive drinks!   ;D

Now...down to accountability for today:

I believe I had 5 Diet Pepsis today.  YIKES!!!  I hadn't realized it was that much!  I don't think I actually drank all the contents of the cans, but there were 5 cans opened today.  I opened one up and drank some, then let it sit on my desk for a while and it got warm so I threw it out.  Of course, another one popped up as a replacement.  I had an awful headache this afternoon - I should have just tried to ride it out, but instead, I grabbed a little Diet Pepsi.

Okay, tomorrow I will have less than 5!!

Okay - here is the total for Thursday (6/12/08):  I've had 4 cans of diet pepsi.  At least it is less than 5.  I didn't realize it was that many though.  I need to pay more attention.  I just keep opening new cans because the old ones get warm by the time I get back in the office and so I'm not really drinking that many, but still, I'm counting it because I paid for it and would have drunk it if I had stayed in my office.  I'm letting it spiral out of control again.  Tomorrow - my limit is 3 diet sodas total.  :-)

So are you drinking them at work out of a vending machine?  I couldn't tell exactly from the post.  If you are, maybe you should ration out your change so that you can only buy a certain number a day.  Or you could bring some water to work with you and only let yourself get a soda after you've drunk some water first.  I had a friend who had success with sticking to a diet that way.  The things we do to trick ourselves!

And 4 is definitely better than 5!

Actually - I bring them to work with me...and my boss keeps a fridge stocked with 'em!  I'm surrounded!!!  Okay, here's a confession - I do have 3 or 4 bottled waters in my cabinet, right beside the M&Ms.  My plan is to drink a diet soda first and get that out of the way and then the rest of the day, drink water.  That never happens.  What happens is - I open a can of diet soda and then maybe drink a few sips of it, get busy or go to a meeting and then, come back to hot soda (yuck) and either wait until lunch and have another fresh one then and sip on it for the rest of the day.  The poor water just sits there.  I'll try your suggestion tomorrow.  I'll start with a water and see if that holds the urge at bay.  The sad thing - I have access to free, filtered water all day, and yet, I don't take advantage of it.  They keep raising the prices of sodas at work.  It went from .75 to $1, to $1.25.  If I bought those at work - that's $5 per day.  Good grief!  Water is free.  Or..if I wanted ice water, it is .25 per cup.  Good golly!  The answer is obvious, isn't it?  It's just that darned addiction.  I'll do better tomorrow...

Thanks for the advice/support!!   ;D

Okay - here we are...Friday the 13th!!!

So far, I had part of a 12 oz can of Diet Pepsi.  No tea left and didn't have time to make any.  So...I'm hoping if I have it first thing and start drinking water NOW it might help fight off the cravings.  I'm reaching for the water over my desk now...   :D

That is something that worked for me when I was trying to kick soda. Either I drank one bottle of water for each can of soda, or I would make myself fill the empty soda can with water and then drink that immediately after finishing the soda.

Pretty soon you're so sloshy you can't fit in any more soda. :P
