Ladyserenity5's Journal
« on: October 11, 2011, 08:58:04 PM »
So here it is, my first day!

Breakfast: 2 eggs, 3 strips of bacon, 2 slices honeydew melon
Snack: Chicken Breast, butter pan fried onions
Lunch: mixed salad greens, carrots, red peppers, craisins, EVOO, lemon juice, pepper, beef
Snack: 16 oz coconut milk, 3 carrots
Dinner: ground beef, purple onions, and tomatoes all pan fried in butter with tomato sauce, corn on the cob

I noticed I was pretty hungry today and had a headache.  I don't think I'm eating enough fat.  I need to buy some lard, perhaps a trip to the local butcher tomorrow?  ;D

Oh man, you just said the magic word to me, CRAISINS. I love those badboys but haven't had any since starting paleo, I must remedy that asap.
Always will I take another step. If that is of no avail I will take another, and yet another. In truth, one step at a time is not too difficult…So long as there is breath in me, that long will I persist. For now I know one of the greatest principles of success; if I persist long enough I will win.

Be careful with store bought lard.  Most lard available at the grocery store is hydrogenated lard, which has trans fats and is a frankenfood.  You may not be able to find unhydrogenated lard.

The first place to get more fat is to get it with your meat.  Chicken breasts are pretty lean, especially if they don't include skin; have chicken with the skin on, preferably dark meat.  Try to get ground beef that is 70-75% lean, or at most 80% lean, rather than 90%.

Dried fruit like craisins are not really paleo; they are very high in sugar for the weight.  Paleo man would generally have eaten his fruit fresh rather than drying it to carry it around.

While people may think of corn on the cob as a vegetable, it's really a grain - corn - and definitely not paleo.  Other "vegetables" that are nonpaleo agricultural foods are potatoes and sweet potatoes and all sorts of beans and peas.  I know the categorizations seem complicated at first, but you'll figure them out eventually!
