I just got this cookbook in the mail. It will probably be the best paleo-ish cookbook so far. It's 580 pages and recipe names include paleo and caveman.

I am BIG into cinnamon apples these days...and apple streudel, apple and squash stuffing....pick you poison really.  If it's apple I'm making it and I'm making it paleo.  My hubby thinks I'm nuts...

Right now I have 2 pie pumpkins, a carnival squash and 2 cinnamon apples w/ honey and pumpkin seeds in the oven....oh yeah my house smells amazing.

Picked up 2 eight ball zucchini at the farmers market....made a chicken, squash, zucchini "casserole"...it was good.  Really been trying to eat more meat and less fruit....think it working :-\

I love elk burgers!

My trick on roasting seeds. Wash off the pulp and dry them off - paper towel and then air dry.  Put in a bowl and lightly drizzle with your oil of preference.  Really not much.  Add whatever spices you like and mix up.  Then spread out on a cookie sheet and place in an oven set for 225F for about 50-min to an hour or so.  Start checking at 50 minutes.  At that low of a temp they will not burn , so don't sweat that.  Cook them until they start to get golden in color.  The time varies depending on the volume of seeds.

Yes, the elk was yummy.  Think I might get some more...but it is so pricey :o

The pumpkin seeds were a bit hit for my  taste buds.  I'm a texture eater so I always want something crunchy....these did the trick.  Although I must admit....I made 2 pie pumpkins, saved the seeds from both and the seeds are already gone...oops. :-[

Okay, a bit of a rant here so forgive me now for not being pc......but I'm gonna go ahead and say this:
PEOPLE ARE MORONS!

I am SOOOOO tired of DEFENDING the way I eat and the lifestyle I choose.  Where in the hell do people get the right to belittle me for EATING HEALTHY while they are stuffing double cheeseburgers in their faces!??!?!?  Do I go up to them and make a comment like "Oh, so your trying to be a fat ass huh?" b/c they eat that way?  NO!  So what gives them the right to say to me "Oh, are you eating LOW CARB b/c you think you're fat!??!"  NO YOU DIP SHIT I EAT THIS WAY BECAUSE IT FEELS GOOD AND IT MAKES MY BODY FEEL GOOD YOU FREAKING $*@**#%&#&$##*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No I don't think I'm better than you and no I don't look down upon you b/c of the way you CHOOSE to live your life.  It's not for me to decide how YOU live YOUR life and therefore I keep my mouth shut.  Why can't more people get that!?!?!?!

My personal favorite is "Well, Gwen, I've seen you eat chocolate before and have wine!"  Yes, yes you have....and you know what YOU MOSTLY LIKELY WILL SEE ME DO THAT AGAIN AT SOME POINT IN MY LIFE!  Shocker I know but it's true.  It's not like I'm going to be struck down by the mighty hand of GOD for cheating a bit here in there....BUT IT'S NOT EVERYDAY.  IT'S NOT EVEN EVERY WEEK/MONTH!  Get the picture you moron?!?!?  If I did it all the time then I'd have a problem, wouldn't I?!?!?!?!?

I've come to the realization that the more people who say stupid things to me like "oh YOU are on a diet?"  I just have to  brush it off and chalk it up to the fact that they just DONT GET IT!  No you freak...I'm not on a freaking diet...it's called
I CARE ABOUT MY HEALTH ENOUGH TO LOOK PAST THE THINGS THAT GIVE ME INSTANT GRATIFICATION AND CONSUME THINGS THAT IMPROVE MY QUALITY OF LIFE AND WELL BEING!

'nough said.

I'd be tempted to answer with:

- "Oh, are you eating LOW CARB b/c you think you're fat!??!"

- "No, I eat low carb because I know it keeps me thin" (with a pointed glance at their most likely fat midsection)

and

- "Well, Gwen, I've seen you eat chocolate before and have wine!"

- "Don't worry, it was high fat chocolate!"

That said, you're probably right that it's best just to ignore them instead of giving in to temptation, though.

Warren you are exactly right!

I usually can just keep my mouth shut but every once in a while people take it to far....people who know me and my lifestyle are used to it (but they still say stuff in a "just kidding" fashion---still annoying sometimes).  It's the people who DON'T know me that really tick me off.

How do they not know that this is my lifestyle b/c I have a medical condition?  Or some other problem?
It's just irritating.

I feel sorry for them, because they don't need to be overweight or obese. 9 out of 10 of my friends are overweight or obese. Well, it's probably more like 9.5 out of 10. Trying to convince your friends or family to try it for 30 days is like pulling teeth. Especially, if you tell them that they can stop taking the medications for their autoimmunie disease or acid reflux, but they rather stuff their mouths with garbage. People would rather take medication than stop eating the foods they enjoy. Tonight, I am passing up the best pizza in town with my family because I know what gluten does to me.

Yeah it is sad.  It's sad that people don't take control of their own health.  It's sad that people just accept what "is" with themselves instead of trying to find a better way to live.
Passing up pizza....man that's rough.  I am a social butterfly so social outings I do find difficult.  Sometimes the only thing I eat is what I take.  It is hard.  But I don't miss feeling like dog poo the next day  ;)

I know what you mean gb...it is irritating.  People at work are constantly trying to get me to eat crap....."go on have some cake, you know you want to".....no actually, I don't, thanks all the same.

And there are military social functions all over the freaking place, especially at this time of year, some of which I am obliged to attend, so I have to go to the trouble of making sure my meal is as Paleo as possible.....knowing that they're probably using canola oil with 320 in it.....but I know I can't be THAT picky.....it's SO annoying.

I was out shopping at lunchtime yesterday and I was hungry.....blow me if I could find a restuarant/cafe with something near to Paleo.  Yes, there were all day breakfast menus, which is an option, but here they like to charge for the eggs and toast together and then each 'extra' such as bacon separately.  A couple of weeks ago a cafe wanted to charge me $20 for bacon, egg and mushrooms and tea...why? Because the toast (which I wasn't having and had specifically asked NOT to have) was charged with the eggs.  Oh the fuss because I wanted to be charged for just eggs, bacon and mushrooms.....bloody hell. And yesterday all the places I saw that did all day breakfast were charging the toast with the eggs and I couldn't be arsed to go through the ritual. There's a hole in the market for us.....especially here in Australia. Someone should start a chain of Paleo/low carb restuarants.

Anyway, in the end I cut my shopping trip short, went to the supermarket, bought some great king size prawns (shrimp to you) and came home and made a great salad.

I just walk around and know that everyone has got/is getting it all so wrong.  I was telling another friend about Paleo the other day and the best he could say was ...."hmmm, yes, that all sounds very plausible"....and yet the MINUTE I discovered Paleo I knew in my heart it was right.....(no pun intended). One collegaue said, "ah, well....I don't want to give up eating processed food" and he is SO overweight and knows it and admits to it.

I just shake my head.

I forgot to mention the worst thing about the colleague I mentioned before who is overweight......he's studying nutrition in his spare time.....yeah, go figure????!!!

I told him about not eating carbs and he said..."You need grains"....I said, "Oh really....who said?" .....but despite studying nutrition, he couldn't answer me, just referred to the food pyramid.......I laughed very loudly.....(I think I may have even snorted a little).

I don't think he appreciated that much. I told him I could send him at least a dozen links to studies which refute its accuracy, but he wasn't interested......you'd think someone studying nutrition would be, wouldn't you?  Which is why I was talking to him about it in the first place.

When he has finished in his current job, he wants to practice homeopathy....god help his patients.
