Wow, I hope your procedure goes well and you start to feel better soon. Let me know how the goat yogurt is. I've never had it. I love goat cheese...

Was it erythema in the stomach and fundus?  Erythema is redness caused by capillary congestion, and the fundus of the stomach is the left portion of it (other organs have fundi too)...here's a pic of what the stomach fundus is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fundus_%28stomach%29  Yay medical transcription for teaching me terminology.   :P

Yes - I think that's it...here is what it says:  erythema and congestion in the antrum and stomach body; blood in the fundus and body; diverticulosis of the distal descending colon....then it says "patient became combative and hence procedure was terminated"  I hope that isn't TMI, but I would like to know what it means.  The doc talked to hubby, but he doesn't remember anything and didn't ask questions, so now I'm left wondering until I see her again!  UGH!!  :-)

What does egd mean?  What makes a stomach congested with capillaries?  So confused!!!   :)

Thanks!  I really like this new doctor and I feel so optimistic for the first time in months!!!  I have some goat cheese in the fridge, but I'm scared of it.  I'll try it tomorrow.  I've never been a big dairy fan, never ate salad dressings, mayo, cheese, milk, or anything like that, so it's just a natural "yuck" reaction!   :)  I have some blueberries to go with it, so I hope that will help a little.

I felt a little better today, still trying to get used to all the medicine!

EGD is esaphagogastroduodenoscopy, which is the name of the diagnostic test that they did: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esophagogastroduodenoscopy

"Patient became combative and hence procedure was terminated" - sounds like you got angry/uncooperative with them so they stopped the test?  If you didn't get angry with them, I have no idea how they are using the word combative.  Maybe it means that your GI tract started getting irritated that something was poking around in it and tried to "combat" the scope so they had to stop the procedure.   ???

There are any number of reasons you could have stomach erythema...it just means it is red and irritated basically.  It could be almost anything!

I know what you mean about the yuck reaction...I feel that way about a lot of dairy, especially non-cow dairy.  Where is the queasy smiley when you need it?   :D

I don't know what I did during the test - I was asleep!   :o  Maybe I turned into she-Hulk or something!  LOL!

I tried the goat yogurt with blueberries today.  Let me just say.........YUCK!!!  I only managed to eat 2 big tablespoons before the gagging started.  Yuck!!!  There has to be another way...there just has to be!

Today is a very bad stomach day.  :-(

Kat,

My only words of advice are these -- you do have control over your situation. Whatever you decide to do, you can do it. You own this experience, and you own your body. You are the world's foremost expert on you!!

What I'm saying is, if you can't stomach the yogurt, then don't try to get it down. There are plenty of easy to digest foods and probiotics available out there that can help you. I really believe that.

Once you are ready to forge ahead and make a change for the better, I know you will do it. It took me a year of denial until I was ready to do whatever it takes, and it took me the better part of two years after that to discover the diet that worked for me.

Everybody does things at their own pace. We are all here to support you!! :)

Susan :)

Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it.  I'm still trying with the yogurt.  I just have a high gag quotient with dairy.   :P  My doctor gave me some probiotic pills, Align, that I'm supposed to start taking too.  So many medicines!

I can tell a big difference since I'm not drinking the soda too.  I'm still allowing myself to have one per day if I have to, but I don't really enjoy the taste - it's almost like drinking gasoline!  Yuck!

I think I'm making some progress though - I still feel optimistic about getting better.

I have to have another procedure on Monday - I will be admitted into the hospital for short stay and will probably go home that evening.  Wish me luck!  I hope we get some good answers and good solutions!

Thank you everybody! :D

Whew!  What a rough week this has been.  I had my procedure and got some more info - I have ulcerative colitis.   :P  I have been so sick ever since Monday (the cleanout day) and nearly fainted in the hospital.  I ended up taking a couple extra days off work due to bleeding and pain too.  It seems like this has taken over my life and not in a good way.

I like the new doc - she has also reaffirmed that I can't eat nuts or berries and is still stressing the yogurt and probiotics.  She gave me some additional medicine too.  So...now I guess I know I can't eat nuts and berries - it makes me feel so un-Paleo.  I know I can still eat Paleo without those foods, but they seem to be the cornerstone of every healthy diet and it frustrates me because I want to eat them!  I guess I'll have to find other things to eat though.

Here is today's menu - I just now started getting my appetite back.

Breakfast
Pancakes with Maple Syrup
Tea

Lunch
Turkey Sandwich
Lay's Potato Chips
Tea

Dinner
Chicken and Dumplings
Biscuit
Tea

Snack
PB&J
Cheetos
Diet Pepsi

I snuck a Pepsi in - it didn't feel very good, so I guess I need to just eliminate it all together.  As you can see, very little fiber.  Just not ready for it yet.  For some reason, I just want things like the pancakes and biscuits.  I don't know what that is about - I guess they just seem soft and comforting.   :D

I've not been eating very Paleo since my procedure and new diagnosis.  I feel kind of lost about everything.  I can't have nuts, seeds, or berries, so it makes me feel like a Paleo fraud.  I think I'm overthinking the whole thing or something.  The doctor told me to learn to eat yogurt.  Yuck.  I'm still trying on that one, but I just don't enjoy eating it.  I feel like I'm gaining weight again, which isn't good.

I can tell from dinner though, the bread just isn't agreeing with me.  I know from researching and experience now, that carbs/breads are not good for colitis and all that.  I'm also supposed to eat low-fat.  I guess it is possible to do that and still be paleo, right?
