I'm reading the Paleo for Athletes book. Constructive criticism and advice are quite welcome as part of the learning process. But step away from my half & half for my coffee!I'm not into measuring and counting anymore, so this is just a list. 9/2/20092 coffee w/ half & half and stevia 3 eggs scrambled with a handful of fresh spinach in olive oiltea w/ stevia granny smith apple walnuts (way too many) romaine salad tuna salad (tuna, celery, onion, mustard, mayo, pepper)tea w/ stevia marinated broccoli (olive oil, lemon juice & garlic) - from Paleo bookcold chicken leg quarter dipped in mustard yet more tea w/ steviaegg & lemon soup (2 eggs, can of chicken broth, lemon juice) - Avgolemono
My daily non paleo cheat is coffee. I just like coffee. No excuses except I want my coffee.
FWIWI think you will find that non-Paleo food(?) items will inhibit your training performance. I didn't feel the intensely ergogenic potential of this way of eating until I was on my 3rd. week of 100% Paleo. I have found that going deeper Paleo than Cordain recommends(no refined oils, no potatoes, etc..) is better for me. I'm only 5 generations from my hunter/gatherer ancestors. Something else I have noticed (that Tarlach and I discussed) is that those folks who are unwilling to give up certain "dietary pleasures" have a very low success rate. They make excuses and concessions for certain food choices then they spiral down off the Paleo "wagon". Sure to follow this is a post about how terrible that food choice was, how poorly they felt, how sick it made them and how hard it was to return to Paleo eating afterwards.JMO

I'll ponder that one... As far as mayo, I can understand concern with store bought because of soybean oil and usually some sugar (Duke's full fat has no sugar). BUT, can I have mayo if I make my own? I tried olive oil and did not care for the strong flavor. Canola oil has a nice flavor, but we've already ditched that. SO.... I have also used grapeseed oil for mayo which was good. And I read about using flaxseed oil for mayo which I wanted to try. I only use eggs, oil, lemon juice, pinch garlic powder and pinch of sea salt (Ooops, I guess no salt from now on? or is sea salt ok?).Did the chicken broth get picked only because it's in a can and not homemade? I can understand that. Now that I look at it: chicken stocksaltnatural flavordextrosechicken broth powderautolyzed yeastpotassium chloridedisidium inosinatedisodium guanylatechicken fatvinegar powdercitric acidsuccinic acidlactic acidHmmm... ok, nuff said bout that. Rats, I threw away a chicken carcass just yesterday because I was too lazy to do anything with it.Tarlach - I will try black coffee w/ just stevia. But not today... or tomorrow either. I will um..... how about I not buy more half & half when mine is gone? It's actually almost gone anyway. OH, one more thing. How about the Davinci or Torani sugar free coffee syrups? I like hazelnut.````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````9/3/092 coffee w/ half & half and stevia (still pondering this one)chicken breast sauteed in olive oil w/ creole seasoning 2 eggs over medium atop the chicken, Mmmmmmm... tea w/ stevia granny smith apple w/ almond butter (way too much, but not as much as if it had been peanut butter) romaine salad w/ red wine vinegar & olive oil (vinegar, I know. Just using it up, then switch to lemon juice)tuna salad (tuna, celery, onion, mayo, mustard, pepper), yes mayo was store bought, but I don't mind making my own.tea w/ stevia walnuts egg & lemon soup (yes this had the canned chicken broth, lesson learned)marinated broccoliSo, lessons learned: make my own mayo and chicken broth. Use lemon juice on salad rather than vinegar. ... and hold on to what's left of the half & half for dear life before someone snatches it from me.
I have made homemade guacamole and used it on salads. But I like to make tuna salad and egg salad to bring to work. Those are the only two things I use mayo for. I wonder how those would be with guacamole instead of mayo. With your recipe I could substitute the tuna or eggs. I like the idea with apples too. I always have walnuts or almond butter with my apple; never thought about guacamole dip. But guacamole is something I could have a portion control issue with, along with almond butter and nuts.... nom, nom, nom...
