Well while you're all talking about it I found the Thais with the most reasonable method, a little hose and shower head attached to the cistern for a quick spray and the toilet paper basically used as a towel.  Used heaps less paper and worked a treat.  Although not being able to flush the paper and putting it in a bin was not cool.

Working toilets were few and far between on occasions...

I suppose it's the equivalent of the French-style bidets.

LOL!  Oh this conversation has................ah the heck with it!

That is better then squatting over a hole in the ground, but there you are back to the leaves!   ::) It would seem with your contraption you would have to stay away from the end cap TP as it might be too soft and end up ....err.......sticking and creating a even worse mess!  Well I suppose you -could- air dry.  :o :o

Well it was Thailand so air dry is perfectly feasible seeing as I was only ever in a pair of boardshorts and its 30+ degrees all the time.

It's funny to how noone stressed about it over there and everyone has to do it but mention it back here in a "western" style environment and it's the grossest thing ever.

But we seemed to have steered this in completely the wrong direction.
