New to Paleo
« on: September 27, 2014, 12:07:50 PM »
Started Paleo 8/4/14 9 pds lost.

9/26/14
4eggs pan fried in olive oil
Kale and spinach salad
W/ grilled chicken strips and shrimp
Homemade beef jerky
Handful of almonds
Chicken breast and baked broccoli
Apple
I'm still new to this and taking it stages so I just started trying carb light about a week ago and I am still craving like crazy! Should I avoid apples(which is my favorite treat) until the cravings go away?

Looks like a pretty good diet.

If you want to go very low carb - ketogenic - paleo, you may have to limit or give up apples.  I would recommend getting some ketostix and using them until you get a feel for when you are in or out of ketosis, and how much fruit you can have and still remain in ketosis.

Once you get solidly into ketosis, you won't have much in the way of carb cravings, though you may still get some craving for fruit when you need vitamin C.

9/27/14
Only 1 meal
Chicken pan fried with onions, garlic, peppers
Green salad with more peppers, broccoli and carrots strips
Homemade beef jerky
Green beans( I know! Even worse they were canned!) I ate most of the can too... Last can though
Leftover crab meat

9/28/14
Omelette with peppers
Bacon 2 pieces
Beef and vegetable soup lunch and dinner
Almonds
1/2 apple

9/29/14
2 eggs
Pistachios (I went a little crazy on them, I can't buy anymore  :(
Beef ribs
Broccoli
Carrots
Beef jerky
2 more eggs
Handful of grapes

9/30/14
Huge pan fried chicken and spinach salad with jalapeņo peppers
Leftover broccoli
Almonds
More peppers drizzled with olive oil salt and pepper

I'm cutting the fruit down to every other day right now I was in ketosis yesterday!
I don't know if I'm getting enough salt though, I don't usually like to add salt to cooked food but I was craving watermelon with salt today bad. I'm also drinking a lot of water, so even sprinkling in salt doesn't seem like enough.

Salt is fine - have as much as you like.  On a nonpaleo diet, one gets a lot of salt in baked goods such as bread; on paleo, you have to actually eat the salt.  Paleo man had access to plenty of salt in the blood that came with his meat.

I encourage people to eat sea salt and stay away from iodized salt. I need less sea salt for some reason to get the flavor that I want.

Sea salt is more flavorful compared to your average iodized salt. But isn't iodized salt healthier?
