Paleo report
« on: May 23, 2011, 07:26:05 AM »
Ok lets do this, im on paleo since ~24.04.11
I am 1,92m tall and my weight was at 97kg at the beginning - today im down to 91kg after a month of Paleo.
I workout 3 times a week - mostly for building strength.
I switched from eating tons of carbs to straight paleo from one day to another. I had no problems eating high amounts of meat / vegetables in the first weeks and this is my problem at the moment.
I cant find any grass-fed meat around where i life - i checked the market in our town and _all_ the stores i could find - nothing!! So i have to buy the normal meat from the stores that tend to have better meat than the supermarkets :(
I checked a lot stores the last month and most of the meats where very bad - they tasted not good in any way if you cant throw tons of garlic/spice/sauce over it.
I hope you guys can read this my english is very bad :)

I read 2 books about Paleo and both told the "Paleo-Way" in different ways. In one book almost every word was "lean" and in the other one it was ok to eat meat with lots of fat... confusing in many ways.

At the moment my problem is that i almost cant eat any more meat. I have to sit down do nothing else and tell myself "this is only 200gr of pork - EAT IT DAMN!!" I dont know what to do that my meals taste good again and i want to eat them :(

Today i had the following so far:

7:00 300gr fatty Pork with 300gr broccoli

at around 10 o clock i had a cup of coconut milk 0,2l which almost made me want to throw up - i felt very bad.

12:30 300gr fatty Pork with some carrots, broccoli and cauliflower with 6 walnuts

around 18:00 250gr. sausages (from groundmeat) 300gr vegetables with 6 walnuts

All meat/vegetables where warmed in olive oil or water and maybe a little bit of salt - nothing else.
I think im going to get some sausages for dinner/breakfast

13:30 2 sausages (250gr.) and broccoli (350gr.), some nuts (6) - i know its the same stuff, but i am at work and i cant do crazy cooking here :(

18:00 an apple and tons of water after workout
18:30 1 big chop pork and a mix of veggies plus 3 tomatoes (300gr.)

6:50 2 Chop Pork, veggie mix (350gr. cauliflower, carrot, broccoli)
10:00 2 sausages, broccoli (350gr.)
13:30 2 Chop Pork, some tomatoes and paprika
18:30 Fatty Pork with Spinach (300gr.)

btw i think tomatoes and paprika are nightshades. What is bad about these? I seem not to find that many vegetables that are "in season" here. And what kind of salt should i buy?

The one that said fat is okay is correct, especially as you're getting omega 3s in eggs.  Out of curiousity, which book was that?

btw i think tomatoes and paprika are nightshades. What is bad about these?

Some consider nightshades nonpaleo because they are new world foods, native to the Americas, and there were no humans in the Americas during the paleolithic.  Also, there is evidence that nightshades can cause osteoarthritis.  I get mild arthritic symptoms when I eat nightshades, so I don't.

here is a little update again:

@Warren Dew
If im not wrong it was the german book of Dr. Nicolai Worm "Syndrom X oder ein Mammut auf den Teller" it has a lot of insulin and diabetes stuff in it. It says that fats are very good for you as long as you are eating the right fats.

I found a local "Farmer?" that is feeding his pigs only with stuff he has grown himself, without chemicals and only with "bio" stuff and the pigs have a big place where they can run around when it is not too cold. I bought 1 kg of fatty meat from him and this meat was the best i have ever eaten. It was _so_ delicious and it didnt get smaller when we grilled it was awesome!
Too bad they are only at the market 1 time in the week and i dont have a freezer that is big enough to throw some more meat in there :( its almost all time filled with vegies and fish now.
Yes im trying to eat more fish because of the good Omega3s. Last week i tried alaska pollock salmon fillet? dunno if google got that one right ;)

All in all i feel great. I can workout hard and my bloodpicture i got from the doctor today is great!
The only value that was not in the "normal" area was my liver.
The GPT-value was 55 and <50 would be "normal" this made me wonder a little bit because before my Paleo-Start i was drinking alot of alcohol and this value was better in this time the doctor said... but its nothing i should worry about yet. I didnt drink alc. since Easter.

I have a hard time drinking eggs after my workout and i really want to drink something that is good for regeneration after the pumping so i looked around for a paleo-near supplement.

I found this, its expensive but its without sugar. I tested it 1-2 times and i didnt feel bad at all:
http://www.vitalmind.de/index.php/slider-products/eiweiss-plus-mit-lcarnitin-16.html
I dont know if the ingredients make sense for non-germans.

breakfast: 3 Omega-3 Eggs, Spinach and 2 slices of lean pork
2nd breakfast: a good amount of alaska pollock fillet with carrots&peas (im not sure if the Peas are ok?)
lunch: a good amount of alaska pollock fillet again with broccoli some walnuts
after workout supplement-powder with water
dinner: 4 sausages (400gr.) with spinach
everything was fried in coconut oil

A Chinese-Shop in the town sells Coconut Milk 1l for 3,45€ this is cheaper than the stuff that is canned and tastes a lot better. Is the price ok? its still kinda high if you look at what 1l of "normal" milk costs...

i think the sausages are kinda bad because there is tons of stuff in it that i dont even know... :(
are there special ingredients i should look after when buying these?

Look at the sausage ingredients - many sausages have grains and sugar which is no good. For sausage - look for only meat, fat and herbs/spices. Nothing else.

No legumes (peas are legumes)

Supplement powders are not really good. The exercise people will know more.

It's hard to compare prices across countries. If you can buy pure and freshly made coconut milk then it's great. A lot of canned coconut milks have 'extra ingredients' which are bad.

Since some weeks i kind of feel terrible/sleepy most of the time.
I dont know why because i didnt change anything in my way of eating - i felt way better and more energised when i startet Paleo.
All i did was getting rid of the supplement-shakes.

Normally I eat alot of broccoli, cauliflower, kohlrabi "? dunno the word in english" for vegetables
Alot of fatty Pork and some wild Salmon or Pollock. The fish comes in the form of steaks. And i have to eat alot of it to feel full and not hungry.
I eat 3-4 meals a day and everyone has meat/vegetables in it. From day to day i eat bacon / 3 eggs but not that much because i think the eggs are not so good for me. I have to burp alot after eggs.
I eat like 1kg of meat per day. Maybe more.
My poo went from rocksolid and very much to very little and mushy?

Whats up with all the Vitamin B and Fishoil stuff? Should i try that?
I dont know how to eat more good animal fats i think i eat alot of that already.

1 kg of meat is a lot.  I wonder if you are getting too much protein.  The maximum amount of protein that you need would be 2g/day per kg of lean body mass.  More than that and you might be overloading your liver or kidneys - you might want to google "rabbit starvation" to see if that might be the issue.

Diarrhea this morning ~1hour after my breakfast of 350gr. fatty pig and 200gr. Cauliflower
After that i only had 500gr. of broccoli, no meat yet.

How can i check if i damaged my liver/kidneys yet?

It is possible to overeat meat if you eat too much lean meat.  Is the 91 kg mostly muscle, or is there a lot of fat you are trying to get rid of?  If it's all muscle 1kg of meat may be okay - sorry, I hadn't rechecked your original post for how big you are.

You might try substituting leafy green vegetables for the vegetables you are currently eating.

What might be best would be for you to post everything you eat, daily, for a week or so.  That makes it easier to identify potential problems.

Ok i will do an exact report. Maybe with some Pictures if i can manage to take a few.
The meat i am eating is the most-fatty-meat i can get at the butcher. It is not as fatty as bacon.
It looks like this:

I think there still is some fat on me to get rid of (I cant see a 6-Pack). My BMI was checked some months ago at the gym and the number was "normal" i dont know how much it was exactly.
