Please Critic my Food Journal from the last week.

Hi All,

I have been doing REALLY well since starting Paleo on 19th July. 

However, a few days before the time of the month, I normally weigh myself (Frid and Saturday) and usually I would lose about 1 kg / 2lbs.  That didnt happen.  I understand that because I was probably going to gain anyway from water needed for menstruation.

However, throughout my cycle I have stuck to under 1200 calories (but I have had about 3 days of intense personal stress also).  And I would like to insight  abit more on the possible, whooshes and ups and downs...and/or if my body is storing something because of something.

I also started about a week ago 3 days trying a Couch to 5k.  So slightly more intense workouts.

I now weigh about 238lbs at best reading.  Waist about 37inches, Hips - 47inch.

ATTACHED - is my food diary from myfitnesspal.

Some of the foods use german names, but I think you can still see the nutritional values which is more important.

Please let me know if you see anything that I may be doing to watch out for.

I'm going to make comments from a paleo standpoint, rather than just from a weight loss standpoint.  Most of the things you are eating are find, especially the meat and vegetables, but the following items stand out:

Protein powder is a highly manufactured food, and is thus not paleo.  Also, most protein powders do not include all necessary nutrients to build muscle, so they just get converted to carbohydrate in the liver.

Dairy is not paleo, so the milk and cheese are not paleo.  A number of other members have seen weight loss stalls from dairy.

Dairy and protein powder account for quite a bit of your caloric intake, so you'll want to replace it.  It would be best to replace it with more meat - preferably, full fat meat.  For example, get 70% or 75% lean ground beef if you can find it.

Your exercise is entirely cardio, which can burn off small amounts of fat but does not burn off much in the way of excess carbs, either from diet or from conversion from protein through gluconeogenesis.  It would probably be best to replace the cardio with some kind of anaerobic workout - options would include high intensity interval training (HIIT), or squats or other weightlifting.  If you enjoy biking, you might see if you can find a route that includes some hills and might be used to make up an HIIT circuit.

Great feedback,

Well noted. 

I live in Austria and the some of the items they make (yes still processed) but way less than items in America.  I really do need to stop using that as an easy source of protein.

The cheese which I do use a lot is my attempt to up my fat count. 

I have been doing Paleo for 6 weeks and I am still trying to get my head around such fatty meats....or to be able to chew fat bits in my mouth.  arrghhhh...

Your comments really tells me what I should do to change!

Hi cavecapaccino,I've  been paleo for just over a month now and I to had a problem eating the fatty pieces. What helped me was slicing those pieces very thin so that there would be a little sliver of the fat with the larger piece of meat. Hope this helps!

tracyd -  are you trying to lose weight at the moment?  or just on paleo for the lifestyle only?



I am now trying to lose weight....so also reducing my calories.  It is not a problem and I dont get hungry unless needed or cravings.

Just curious...how many CARBS do you try to eat a day (maximum)?  Me 50g max.

Lean meats and whey protein are low fat... possibly kidney killers. Gout etc.
Try to find high fat meats.

I came to paleo because of autoimmune issues, but have noticed that I'm really starting to get lean. I don't count carbs because I don't think it's necessary if you're not eating refined carbs.
