sleepykgm's paleo journal
« on: January 10, 2012, 06:43:06 AM »
Hi all. Was on paleo a while back, but fell off for no reason. But I'm back for a second attempt. I started this saturday. Main goal is to lose weight and to have natural energy as I'm tired of running out of energy half way through the day.

Saturday, January 5, 2012
Breakfast:  3 **omelet muffins (egg, green orange red bell pepper, turkey bacon), 3 **almond banana pancakes, 3 cups green tea with stevia
Lunch:  2 **salmon patties cooked in grapeseed oil, Huge salad with Italian dressing from whole foods, *2 altoids (peppermint)

*i work at walgreens on the weekend and i did not think that the smell of onions on my breath would be good for dealing closely with the public. otherwise i would have left the altoids alone and brushed my teeth instead

PM snack:     handful of raw almonds
Dinner:  1 turkey burger patty, Huge salad with Italian dressing

I want to add that several weeks before Paleo I was a huge coffee drinker, complete with liquid cream (such as the commercial brand). But I have stopped as I cannot tolerate the taste of plain black coffee, even if it is sweetned with stevia or truvia. I would rather have green tea with stevia than plain black coffee. Also, pre-paleo, I eliminated pork and red meat from my diet exclusively. Pork, I lost the interest in, and red meat, because it made me tired after eating it. I am reconsiderining re-introducing pork bacon seeing as how I may not be getting enough fats.

Getting enough fat can be an issue.  I do eat "uncured" - actually salt cured - bacon, though it is questionably paleo.  Pork belly is fully paleo but I haven't been able to find a butcher that will slice it the way I like.  If you can't find either, regular bacon is better than getting hungry and eating too much carbohydrate.

Some people find it easier to adjust to unsweetened coffee or tea by changing the type of bean or leaf.  Chinese teas like Oolong work much better without sugar than the western blends, for example.
