Sunshine's simple solutions
« on: November 23, 2011, 11:05:45 AM »
Starting back on Paleo since last night..so far so good. I like to keep it simple, no muss, no fuss! Too easy-no measuring, no fancy recipes or elaborate planning-I just eat whole foods as they were meant to be and enjoy the flavors they offer! I eat something every 2 to 3 hours throughout the day,
Last night I had 2 ground beef patties and cooked carrots and water to drink-
Breakfast was 3 soft boiled eggs, black coffee then a banana,
llunch  I had some chicken ,apple pieces
supper a leftover ground beef patty with more cooked carrots and water.
No dairy(my strongest weakness), no sweets, sauces, salt or sugar and feeling just fine! ;D

I had orange juice, a banana and black coffee this morn(should have taken the time to cook up eggs but forgot)-
a can of shrimp for lunch with raw carrots. Some cooked vegies this aft, another banana
2 huge pork chops for supper with cooked celery, onion,  left over mixed vegies and a green salad.

Question for anyone-not sure why butter is OK if dairy is not and have seen mixed opinions about tomatoes being paleo or not. Tomorrow morning--eggs!!! oh and what is the best thing to fry up foods in since I'm still learning about the oils used etc. ??? thanks

Looks pretty good so far!

In answer to your question, butter is not actually paleo, since it's dairy, as you surmised.  However, the identifiably bad parts of butter are the lactose (carbs) and the protein (some milk proteins break down into mild opiates, and there may be other issues as well).

Add that to the difficulty of finding fully paleo fats, and I think many of the people here use butter or clarified butter, preferably pastured.

The ideal paleo fats would be unhydrogenated lard from pastured pigs or grass finished tallow.  Some of us use bacon grease from uncured bacon in preference to butter, although even uncured bacon is borderline paleo due to the salt, and sometimes sugar.

Oh, and whole oranges are preferable to juice; juice, as a liquid sugar, seems to be absorbed faster than our bodies are designed for.

Thanks for the info-i figured the OJ was a no no, soo used to having it in the morning but sometimes manage just with water or coffee (hope to switch back to tea or hot water again soon but  cutting the caffeine gradually, although i only have 2 in the morn so shouldn't be too bad) Looking forward to spare rib dinner tomorrow-any ideas for cooking and keeping the moisture in since last time i basted them with BBQ sauce-Is plain tomato sauce a possible choice? i use it for beef stew usually too..it's fun finding new ideas and ways to cook :) I appreciate the feedback and will check the recipes section for more ideas
