The daily grind of smerkygrl
« on: January 03, 2012, 03:53:17 AM »
Here's to another honest attempt on staying paleo(-ish) for the next 30 days- a food and exercise diary.  As I mentioned in my newbie post, I've done paleo for 30 days before- did it but didn't love it but I suspectit may have been because I wasn't doing it quite right ( I apparently wasn't supposed to eat peanut butter or too many nuts, oops ). Yesterday was day 1 but it was an ease-in day and thus I had a few cheats.  Not to mention, the bf and I were traveling back from Chicago so the travel food options were slightly limited.

Yesterday's breakfast: a very non-paleo bottle of chocolate whole milk ( lol)
Lunch: veggie stir fry with chicken meatballs
Dinner: leftover stir fry with chicken meatballs and 2 tbsp of peanut butter( this was before I realized it was not paleo) and celery sticks.
Snack: rooibos tea with stevia and coconut milk

Today's breakfast: one 8 oz buffalo steak , 1 cup of spinach and onion egg scramble, 1 cup of coffee with stevia and coconut milk
Lunch: left over cup of spinach and egg scramble, 1 Trader Joe's chicken sausage + 1/2 cup of stir fried green peppers,  1 cup of chai tea, and a banana, and an orange
Afternoon Snack: 1 tall glass of almond milk. MMMM.

Dinner: chicken curry with onions, jalapeņo peppers, and garlic. And a hard boiled egg.

Hi Smerky,

Good luck with the 30 day Paleo!  I have over 100 lbs to lose and discovered the problem with nuts - after buying 6 different kinds and spending nearly $50.  They're all still sitting in my cupboard - I guess I'll donate them to the local food bank.

I was wondering what buffalo meat tastes like - is it like beef?

Take care.

Thanks for the encouragement! Buffalo tastes like beef but much more flavorful and a bit leaner.  Its great for stews but can also be used as steaks and burgers.  Its like the best of both worlds for meat---flavor without the fat and lean without the grittiness :) Try it sometime!

May I suggest in adjusting the paradigm of paleo diet?

Low fat is a recipe for illness and disease.  Low fat dieting needs to be un-learned.

High fat diet is the most important paleo diet paradigm to understand.

Low fat = bad

High fat = good

So if your buffalo is too lean, you may want to get fatter cuts, buy pure fat, buy bone marrow.
I'm on Raw Paleo diet but I have kids to feed on cooked paleo diet.

Rest assured, I'm getting plenty of fat from the other meats I eat. I just eat buffalo because it's delicious, fatty or not. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I came here cuz you said you were disconcerted at how much you eat.

lol

Your not eating that much. I eat 5 meals a day, 3 of them involving a ton of meat.

Add a snack of Carrots and Cellery in between lunch and dinner.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

That said I'm a 5'2 Asian female...is there a point where the amount of calories come into play?
