The good, the bad and the ugly
« on: December 21, 2013, 09:17:19 AM »
2 Coke Zeros (ugly and bad)
2 Club sodas with lemon
water
3 egg omelette with sauteed onions, mushrooms, garlic, tomato and capicola ham cooked in ghee. Small avocado with lemon juice and lots of Himalayan salt.

snack- celery and almond butter and water

early dinner-plate of celery with guacamole, little sausages and some pork rinds. 2 zeros and water.

late snack- pecans and 3 waters.

Guessing capicola ham was not great but stopped myself from adding cheese. Thought I might come back and edit whatever I have the rest of the day. I have sucked at trying to eat Paleo lately and still can't give up my pop but thought a public food journal might help with a little accountability and noting what works well and what does not. Big grocery trip in a few days and half a cow coming in a week or so.

I drink a ton off bottled water as the water here taste terrible but trying to think if I should be concerned about the plastic, probably funny since I can't seem to stop myself from drinking diet pop.

I wouldn't worry about the plastic, as long as you're not storing the bottled water for years in the hot sun.

1 more day till I can get to the store. Ate carryout I got on way to driving daughter to work.

Breakfast- Jr. Bacon, no bun. I ate the mayo. I don't like making mayo but love eating it so I need to make sure I pick up pasteurized eggs tomorrow. Coke zero and water.

Lunch- Shish kebob and greek salad. Ate half the rice and a little feta. Also a little of the mayo based sauce. Not tempted at all by pita, sauces are a weakness more than bread. Had a induction style headache so caved on the rice, hope that helps it go away as I am fighting a nasty bug again and my sinuses already hurt. Really only picked at my food so I think another day or 2 and the cravings will be gone.

I have green beans and am thawing shrimp for a stir fry for dinner. Coconut oil, chopped garlic, pepper flakes, salt and pepper. That's the plan but I have to attend the work Christmas party tonight so not sure I'll have the energy to get ready and cook.

A successful meal last month was meatballs with avocado tzatziki on lettuce wraps so adding the items for that to tomorrows big grocery trip. I work at a "Greek" restaurant so if I bring that to work I can eat the souvlaki with it and not need to pack much.

I've been sick a lot the last 6 months so balancing energy levels, headaches and taking a ton of meds.  On Clindamycin for 21 days and its not pleasant. Did a course of steroids last week so my sleep is off as well. Having a MRI on my neck the day after Christmas and a follow up on the 6th. I would like to start 2014 off on a better foot.

Supposedly what Sheryl Crow says caused her breast cancer... drinking water bottles that had been in her car in the Cal-ee-for-nia sun

And her cell phone gave her a brain tumor.

Yuk. New I would cave at the Christmas party. No alcohol but at a piece of pizza and a cupcake. Horrible insomnia. Only got have my grocery shopping done.

Breakfast- Celery and almond butter. Tried to drink a cup of coffee but ended up drinking a Zero.
Snack-Pecans
Lunch-Turkey breast and tomato. Zero and water.
Dinner- Spicy green beans and shrimp in coconut oil. 4 waters

Terrible cravings. Have 70% dark green and black organic chocolate if I cant resist having something but gonna try to hold off and then just makes some eggs and bacon if I feel like I need something.

Think I've had to many nuts/nut butter this week. Tongue is raw. Think that means strawberries are out as my Christmas dessert. Fell asleep during the day too. Yuk.

More shopping and prep day tomorrow. Making green sauce and salsa, cooking chicken and making stock, marinating beef, chopping all the veggies for Christmas dinner. Planning lots of on purpose leftovers.

You might want to get some chocolate dark enough that it won't taste that sweet to you.  I'm guessing 85% would be dark enough right now.

Also, you might experiment with Chinese tea - no milk, no sugar - for your caffeine.

You know about the chocolate- 85% was what I usually buy, not sure why I bought the 70%, thought it tasted funny.  Grabbed more 85% while out today.

Ended up making tuna fish salad and avocado turkey bacon club lettuce wraps last night. Packed one of each separately to have for breakfast today. Had 3 Zeros and 3 waters so far. Picked up La Croix sparkling water  to help me wean off the pop. Gonna make some ice tea as well.

-Skipped breakfast
Lunch-Tuna salad and club wrap and square of dark chocolate

Christmas started out well but could not resist dessert. Sugar makes me binge so next day was bad also. Last few days were good. Lots of green beans and beef, turkey wraps and village salad with chicken. Craving sugar still so tried to make this nut and date snack today. Ate the equivalent of 2 dates and 1/2 cup of nuts and my stomach is revolting and it made the cravings worse. Won't try that again. I think I need more fat. Not satisfied.

Tried to make extra meat on Christmas but it went over well and was gone within 48 hours. Grocery shopping tomorrow, trying to plan it out well tonight. Will be more primal than paleo as that seems to be the only way I can step down from sugar. Cream cheese, feta and maybe a little parm. Definitely no fruit or treats until I can walk by sugar without drooling. My mouth literally waters and it feels like my jaw is gonna lock up when I crave sweets.

Was thinking about probiotics in a week after I'm done with my 21 days of Clindamycin but I'm confused by all the conflicting info. Open to suggestions.

Also gonna try bone broth this week. I swear water just makes me thirstier. Trying to get off the pop and feeling bloated by how much water it takes to make me feel quenched. Rambling now......... :P

It may sound strange but the only chocolate I eat is completely unsweet baking chocolate. 100% An acquired taste for sure but now it is a real treat for me. I actually learned to like it as a child begging for it from my mother who was baking with it. She told me I would not like it but I insisted. Naturally I refused to say I didn't like it so I told her it was good. Was a stubborn little girl....lol

Sounds like your biggest issue right now is to beat the sugar cravings.  I think you need to get off the coke zero.  If you can get off refined sweets for a few weeks, your taste buds will become more sensitive to sweet, and you won't want anything sweeter than fruit.

You can either accept feeling sleepy for a few days as you go through caffeine withdrawal, or you can substitute plain tea or black coffee - no sugar.

I'll try the tea and coffee for sure. I can't handle the sugar (real) in beverages for some reason. My oldest son can't either. Liquid sugar makes me ill. Not sure why it takes a lot more candy or cake to do the same thing but even a few drinks of a regular soda will cause me to crash. I imagine straight sugar in coffee or tea would be the same. Perhaps just baby step? Maybe see if I can make it a few hours without a diet coke since mornings are when I drink the most. As addicted as I feel, maybe habit is as much of a problem.

The headache might be a ketosis induction headache.

Lots and lots of water will help - try to drink at least half a gallon per day.  Extra fat will also help - if you have good quality coconut oil, try a spoonful now and then.
