What I hunt and gather :)
« on: January 05, 2012, 01:34:05 AM »
Soo starting my new lifestyle today! I am aiming for as paleo as I can get but I will have occasional none paleo food from time to time. I hope keeping a food diary will help me stay on track and help me see where my weaknesses are.

Thur 5th jan:

Breakfast - devilled eggs made with ceyenne pepper, paprika and extra light mayo (not paleo but the best I could do)

Lunch - salad made up of baby spinach leaves, watercress, yellow pepper, onion and baby plum tomatoes. Served with this iv got a cold beef medallion (that was cooked rare) leftover from lastnights dinner and grilled mushrooms with garlic. To snack iv got some organic sun ripened tomatoes and some almonds. I also have some cottage cheese because it needs eating. I won't buy it again.

Tea - I havnt decided yet! Maybe some mackerel.

Hope this is ok for day one!

Urgh so after starting the day great this afternoon I've carb binged on a butty, pack of crisps and two mint aeros. Seriously!! What's that all about?? I didn't even enjoy it. I just ate what was available. I don't even think I was hungry! I think im too used to eating in the afternoon. Gonna have to take paleo snacks to work from now on I think. That way if I'm peckish at least I'm not doing any damage. Stupid willpower! I want to do this and I will!
Note to self - buy berries to satisfy sugar cravings :)

Weekend was ok. I need to plan ahead with shopping as I was forced to eat bread as there was nothing else to eat. I'm gradually reducing the amount of bad food I eat. Iv weaned myself off caffeine too!

Breakfast - fat free natural yoghurt (only dairy I eat) with some redcurrants, blueberries and almonds thrown in. A little bit of honey on top.

Lunch - baby spinach leaf salad with leftover roast chicken

Tea - chicken curry with a very small amount of rice unless I can find an alternative. Can't get out of eating this meal.

Hi - it looks to me like you need to eat more fat, a lot more. Hopefully this will keep hunger at bay while you fight the sugar monkey on your back.

The thing with sugar, like many other addictive drugs, is that once you start you keep going - maybe you need to try a cold turkey approach.

Hi thanks for the advice! I have started eating more nuts (brazil and almonds) to get in more fat, and I put olive oil on my salads. Im also eating more oily fish. I'm not a fan of animal fat on meat, I can stomach a little but I don't like the texture and it makes me retch. I have goose fat for cooking though. I'm trying with the sugar if I go cold turkey I always end up binging. I'm getting my sugar fix out of berries instead atm. I'm eating to many but I plan to reduce them in time.

Well my ulcerative colitis is well and truly flared up! I'm hoping this diet gets it under control because I refuse to go on steroids again. I'm eating probiotic yoghurt everyday to help. No raw veggies until I'm better.   The worst part of a flare up is that your body loses the ability to absorb excess air which makes it so painful. I don't know if rare meat is going to create too much gas. Will have to find out!

Not sure if you're aware but yogurt is not paleo :) If you're just making an exception its cool but just wanted you to know, in case you thought it was.
