Liver disease-pure and simple.  Its a disease of nutritional deficiencies and gut fermentation really but a paleo diet put it back on track.

I have always been overweight, the last few years morbidly obese.  I tried Weight Watchers (which I loved but hated constantly counting and obsessing over everything; I always wondered how can I eat so much ice cream, lose weight and still be healthy?), Atkins, South Beach, Cabbage Soup diet, Dr. Oz diet, vegan, vegetarian, any diet at all.  Some I lost weight on, some not so much.  But I was always starving.  I could eat a full meal and immediately feel hungry again.  I was worried about my blood sugar, allergies and health problems with getting older and being obese.  Plus, I wanted to look good!

Last December I moved to Austin, TX to be with my husband.  The first day I was there we went shopping at Whole Paycheck Foods and I was in love with all the free magazines and brochures on better health.  In one of the more "out there" magazines was an article on the Paleo lifestyle.  I did some research online and decided it made sense and was definitely do-able for me, so I tried it for three months.  I lost one pants size and immediately felt better (still tired a lot, though).

My husband and I went on vacation for a month and we went off paleo somewhat, but still tried to eat as closely to it as possible.  I'm proud to say that as of the day we got home I had lost another size.  By the end of the trip I was using my dress pants as pajamas because they were so big.  Now I crave tuna and avocado instead of cake and candy.  I love this lifestye!   :D

I did not know that I was doing paleo diet until later on.

I just thought I had to go 100% raw to heal my liver of liver stone production.

I did what I stumbled upon:

1. raw vegan
2. raw fruitarian

which malnourished me.

So I found Wai Diet

Which was raw fruitarian + raw eggs + raw fish (I don't like olive oil) = and it was instantly amazing for me.

Later on I found out the guys at rawpaleodietforum.com said this was technically raw paleo diet.

Then only after a few more months did I learn that there was such a thing as (cooked) paleo diet like in cavemanforum.com

I have always been a health nut and when I decided to make my healthy practice a step further- meaning achieving far greater result than my physical aspect, I turned into studying and exploring Paleo along with my journey towards Yoga and Life coaching.

It has been great and I am pushing forward the knowledge and experiences I gained to others.

For me it has been culmination of my various trips down 'weight loss lane'.

I remember always being a chubby kid, everyone in my family has weight issues. When I was younger, maybe preteens/early teens I remember reading food lables and not knowing what anything meant. I came to the conclusion that I would pick things with lower numbers on the lable. Whatever the numbers meant I guess I figured that less of whatever I was taking in would result in weight loss. Looking back it was really just a 'calories in-calories out' model I just didn't know it. I had some success, lost a few pounds, they came back.

That was basically me for a very long time and then my mom decided she was going to do Atkins when I was in high school and I decided to do it too. I lost a lot of weight but I found it, mostly the first few weeks, to be very restrictive. I missed veggies, I missed variety, maybe I was doing it wrong, not putting in enough effort whatever it was I fell off and basically kept putting on weight until college.

Once I hit college I was able to cook for myself and I just started making meals that centered around protein, low carb veggies and fruit I was pretty much doing paleo and didn't know it. Then I remember reading something about it and just worked out the details from there.

Now it's gotten a bit rougher that I'm in rural Malawi, protein is expensive and hard to get and keep fresh (no electricity) so I eat a lot of eggs and tuna packets that my mom sends me. Not a very diverse diet as far as protein goes but I am looking forward to my first big steak when I get back to the States.

Make that +2 Sissy...

I am just starting out. As in this is day one. I have avoided the plan for a long time not sure whether this is a fad diet or just another diet I will fail at. Meanwhile, my health has been going down hill and my appearance has taken a nosedive. I cannot think straight most of the time and my memory is horrible! My blood pressure is way up. My cardiologist suggested a low carb diet, because it still lets you eat fun things, he said. Like bacon. But I avoided it wondering how to live with out bread, pasta and the like. But here I am today I am starting the whole 30 challenge  leading into Paleo. I am looking forward to seeing if this works....and maybe getting into some cute clothes.

A cardiologist recommending low carb?  We really are making progress on dispelling some myths!

One of my customers who is retired doctor recognises the benefits of low carb, high protein 'diet'.  He's not paleo, but his sentiments echo what we on this forum know.

I'm here after lapsing, and my motivation is really to improve the quality and duration of my life, broadly speaking.

I have a friend who introduced me to this kind of diet. Her intention on going into paleo is she wanted to lose weight. I was amazed as to how she was able to do it, for she was quite obese before trying paleo. I got interested and researched on it. During my research and readings, I found out how my unhealthy my diet is which consists of majority processed foods and take outs from fast food stores. It was not my intention to lose weight because I am blessed with a lean body, but it was my desire to live longer by eating healthy foods that prompted me to change my eating habits. I was convinced that paleo is the answer to a healthy lifestyle.
