Detox, Sugar Ban, Almonds, GF and Hello!
« on: April 14, 2016, 08:47:32 AM »
Hello!

I started out being semi-paleo by cutting out wheat after I found out I was allergic to gluten in my teens. I have since been on a sugar ban, only using natural sugars but sparingly.  I started doing HIIT in the past couple of years after getting bored of yoga and running (knee injuries are not fun)

I have in the past used almond flour in baking treats, as after years or not eating wheat, I do miss the occasional brownie and cookies! I am sick of almonds, although I know they are good for you  :)

I recently read about the "caveman power" diet, but have anyways used a similar model for myself over the years to get fit. The diet is based on intermittent fasting during the day, drinking only water, tea, grazing on fruit and nuts and then "feasting" at dinner time for the first 2 - 4 weeks. For newbies, the recommendation is that you can eat pretty much anything. Although I prefer to eat paleo as this helps drop the pounds (for example after a holiday!)

This method of eating suits me as I absolutely hate ruining my appetite eating small meals through the day, and never really having the pleasure of eating a full meal at dinner time, and I miss the social side of eating dinner with friends or family.  I should add that I am small framed, so eating a heavy lunch would mean that I have probably ruined my dinner. Does anyone else have experience with Intermittent Fasting?

Some people I know (and they are of a healthy weight) eat only once a day. I really found this to be beneficial myself ... and it does give a break to the digestive system.

I would love to hear about anyone else's experiences/ your thoughts.

Best wishes!

Thank you :D  I am in week 3 now and I already feel a difference. I eat about 80 percent paleo and maybe 20 percent non-paleo. I am happy with my progress and will keep at it!

For what it's worth, for the occasional nut flour items, I've found hazelnut flour to be less heavy than almond flour.  Unfortunately, it's even more expensive!

I've tried intermittent fasting but didn't see any crazy changes or results. I think the biggest thing for me was that I'm able to withstand eating for longer periods of time if needed.

Anyways, welcome to the forum. I'm a complete newbie as well :)

Welcome snowwhite! I am new too  ;) IF works, i did 5:2 and IF 17h - 18h. I noticed the results pretty soon, my problem is that i tend to binge on it, so i never keot it long enough. In Europe it's quite popular since ever, it's known as "dinner cancelling". Basically, you eat lunch at 3.30pm or at 4pm (eventually until 5am) and then nada , but tea or coffee (unsweetened) until tomorrow morning. It's believed to do wonders for your levels of Human Growth Hormon. In Russia, many women don't eat after 6pm. In real life, i know many who lost significant amounts of weight that way (and kept it off.) It is socially awkward though. You'll happen to be at dinners, or even host dinners where you won't eat anything  :P Btw, those people i know, who had great results, it took them months (like 6+ months, or even 8 in one case) to get there, it's not a speedy solution, so to say.
