former raw vegan + endurance athlete

 ;D
OKOKOK I am ready to take the jabs!  I was a devout 100% raw vegan for over 3 years and felt great until that point.....Back that up.  Prior to going RV I suffered from IBS, and many other digestive issues so I went gluten and casein free for a time before RV...Going RV was easier for me as it was "cut & dry" and I did well because there was no dairy/ unsprouted grains involved----so not too far off the mark of paleo-just no meat!  Fast forward to August '08 when things weren't continuing so great...I went back and forth raw, not raw, SAD, counting calories.  My weight fluctuated up, down up up up....I succumbed to peer pressure and chalked it up to menopause and old age (I am 43-not old!).....re committed to raw innumerable times but never got that same "jazzy" feeling as before-something was missing....

After a recent trip as I observed someone else eating Paleo I decided to give it a try...OK, it's only been since Sunday so almost a week but MAN O MAN I am feeling better already!

I am hoping it will positively effect my workout recovery + weight which has crept up 20 pounds over the past couple of years....mostly belly weight where I never had it before!  So far so good!  I can still continue to enjoy many of the raw vegan dishes I made in addition to protein-How cool is that?  I am hoping this will take my health a step in the right direction as I am an avid runner, cyclist and P90X'er!!!!!
I officially begin my summer vacation today and my goal is to feel better, eat better, and look better by the end of summer!

I would love to hear from others with similar experiences.  I am glad to have found this sight!

Howdy, Welcome!
I'm also an endurance athlete. I bike and hike in the warm months. Winter and spring I do research and development for a backcountry ski/snowboard company, climb mountains and snowboard down them.

Hello;
  Club cyclist and racer. Running(duathlons) back on the training schedule for 2011 now that I have my orthotics and(hopefully) can manage my back/neck issues. Ball hockey(goalie and forward/defense) pretty much year round.

   Like you I stumbled upon paleo after reading an article in the local paper and realized my dietary journey had(unknowingly) led me down the paleo path. I had essentially stopped eating processed foods and cut way back on grains in an attempt to drop pounds before the 2010 race season. Other than learning to drink coffee/tea black it was an easy transition for me and I saw IMMEDIATE results. Went from 216+ pounds(mostly belly weight) in January to low 190's and I'm having the best cycling/race season ever and feel prime!

  Biggest challenge now is avoiding ice cream. ;D
