Great to meet you all
« on: February 06, 2007, 08:12:05 AM »
Hi Folks

I might be browsing for a while before posting, so I think I'd better introduce myself so as not to be a lurker! :)

I'm a great believer in the caveman philosophy: that our wellbeing relates directly to how well our lifestyle and nutrition match our evolutionary history. I believe there is plenty of good evidence for the this, but to me the power of the argument lies primarily in its 'well duh' factor:

- Good nutrition comprises seasonal food in as close as possible to its natural state: well, duh.
- Good exercise comprises activities necessary with local natural resources to acquire the above and defend from predators: well, duh.
- Good mental health stems from consistent social interaction with a small group of well-known individuals all involved in the above: well, guess what, duh.

Myself and my wife are both keen on understanding how the above principles can be practically implemented in modern life. In general, we:

- Follow a low-GI diet high in fresh local fruit and vegetables
- Run, do body-weights and carry our 20-month old daughter (I also do Tai Chi)
- Fail abysmally on the last point (because of the structure of western society)

When I do post, I hope you will excuse any deficiencies in my background research ::); please go easy on the newbie! I look forward to chatting with you folks

Welcome George!

Well stated on the rationale.  It was truly an epiphany when I first came across the principles that Art Devany put out on his website.  It was great because (a) It made perfect sense and (b) I knew I could do this!  None of this needing to jog (which I hate) or eat just low-fat (I like beef) or low-carb (I like fruit).

welcome!

These three things, but especially the last one resonate with me.

For me, I see the whole value of wild foods, eaten in wild communities of wild people.

Thanks for the welcome folks, I look forward to contributing. Hey Humyn, I reckon that could be an alternative strapline for the site!

Cheers
