Let Me Re-Introduce Myself
« on: June 28, 2010, 10:11:30 AM »
Hello Everyone,

I actually joined the forum a while back, when my friend Scott Ward got me onto it, but haven't really taken up the diet since then. I figured that to really measure the benefits of this diet, I needed to get my diet healthy to begin with. I've since cut out fast food and drinking, and have been eating my veggies and taking my vitamins every day.

I am a boxer and mixed martial arts fighter, so my diet wasnt' the unhealthiest to begin with. I am now ready to fully jump into this diet, and see if it is worthwhile for me. My first question would be whether I'm allowed to continue to drink my whey protein shakes. I buy the Gold Standard Natural brand, so there aren't really any addatives to it.

I understand that whey is a dairy byproduct, which already puts it into the bad colum, but I have to eat at least a gram of protein for every pound I weigh, every day. Shakes are the only way I can realistically get that ammount of protein in every day.

Are there any current or former fighters or athletes out there that can give me any good tips? I'm 6'1", 195lbs, and don't have much body fat on me.

It's good to get back on the forum. Hope you all have a good day.

That would be the obvious solution, but I don't see myself being financially able to do that.

That would be the obvious solution, but I don't see myself being financially able to do that.

1/2 chicken, roasted (cost $2.50-$3.00) - 115gm of protein
1lbs inside skirt steak (cost $4-$4.50/lbs) - 120gm of protein
1lbs "butcher cut" ground beef (cost $2.50-$3/pound) - 71gm of protein
306gm of protein plus vitamins, fat, etc... 2750kcal total for $9-$10.50 if you shop around...

Whey
17 scoops (about 2oz over a pound) to equal 306gm of protein (and only 1360kcals) for as cheap as $10 bucks, or as expensive as $25 depending on the brand.

You really aren't saving that much by going with whey powder. This diet involves PREVENTING starvation, not inducing it.

Diets fail because society as a whole believes body image is more important than health. The problem is that obesity is simply one of many symptoms of an illness, not the illness itself.

And I'm being cured.
