New - Hello from Australia
« on: January 17, 2012, 05:10:36 AM »
Hi everyone!  I've just joined and am quite new to the Paleo lifestyle, and am always eager to learn more!

A little bit about me:
I'm 30, female, and live in Australia.  I was a vegan for several years, but gave it away because - although I felt fantastic  - I started feeling weak, vague, and started to have some digestive issues during a period of very high stress in my life.  I stuck to my diet for quite some time but I was miserable and felt worse and worse, and I honestly felt that the diet didn't fit me .  Once I decided to include more food groups, I got a bit excited :D ... I started eating crazily and unhealthily - takeaway burgers and fries, LOADS of cheese, cakes, custard pies, deep fried everything.  Naturally, I felt worse and I also quickly stacked on 9kg, which was all of the weight I had lost naturally during my vegan years (and a little more).

I have tried so many different ways of eating to improve my stomach pain and lose weight since then (lacto-vegetarian, calorie counting, cutting out fructose, low-fat/high-carb diet, Dukan, an Ayurvedic diet consisting of mostly vegetables, legumes, rice and ghee).  None have worked on either the pain or the weight, or if they did work I still didn't feel like the diet suited.  The digestive issues and abdominal pain is still undiagnosed (an ulcer and gallstones have been ruled out), but I'm happy to say it's much better now since gradually removing wheat and now other grains, and cutting out most sugars.  I've already lost a little bit of weight, too!  I'd love to lose the weight I gained plus a bit more, but more importantly I want to feel energetic and full of vitality again.

Sorry this was so long... happy to be here :)

Welcome and stick to this for at least one month before you decide if it is for you.
No expectations, no disappointments!

Hi and thanks for your reply
You're absolutely right, I'm definitely giving it a good go for a couple of months and listening to my body carefully in that time. :)

Welcome! I think us Aussies are starting to take over :D
I hope eating paleo sorts out your issues for you. I can think of a few other vegetarians that could do with the switch...

Welcome from Ballarat.    :)

I had IBS for 20 years pre-paleo, and it all just went away on paleo. My biliary issues have also stopped. It seems lots of people with digestive troubles get better with paleo, so I hope it works for you!

I gained heaps more energy on paleo, and lost lots of weight. I eat plenty red meat and as much healthy fats as I can handle.

Hi - I have just signed on & am too from Australia!!!  YAY!  Am in Wodonga.  Have done three weeks of Paleo before succumbing to birthdays and unlimited excuses!  Anyway - am starting again tomorrow.  The three weeks was great though - lost 4kgs.  Never felt hungry - actually felt great.  Been two weeks since I stopped & have regained 2kgs YUCK! :P
