Newly singled mom on a journey!

Hey everyone, my name is Jaimie and I am at my highest weight of 246lbs. I've made a drastic change this year as I am leaving my partner of 8 1/2years and entering the world as a single mother who desperatly needs to loose weight.

I stumbled upon Paelo on accident and as I did more research I found this website. I am super excited to be on here and to start my journey with all of you! I ordered The Paleo Diet and the cook book off of Amazon and I am looking forward to throwing everything out the window.

As a mother I think it's important that I set the standards for my daughter. I suffer from PCOS and to cure this disease with this new lifestyle. Not only that, but I want to keep my daughter as healthy as possible so she doesn't have to suffer from PCOS as I do.

Anyways, I am making a lot of changes for 2012 and I think adding Paleo to the list just moved up to the 1st spot!!

Welcome!  Just remember that the Paleo way of life is a "way of life" and not a diet.  You will naturally lose weight but don't freak out when the weight loss slows down.  You will feel healthy and that is the real goal.  As far as weight loss goes, many have lost lots of weight, others not so much.  What type of exercise do you plan on doing?  Weight training is actually better than all other types so I encourage you to look into that.  Good luck and do not look back...  When you fall, dust yourself off and get up and start again... This will work if you let it....

Thank you so much for that Bearso! My main motivation for this is to get away from processed foods. Weight loss is a biggy for me as well but I also know it's going to take dedication to achieve what I want. As far as exercise I am a member at a gym and my daughter and I also go on walks 2 times a week...weather permitting at the moment! I will look into strength training, thank you again =)

Welcome to the forum, and good luck!

I should warn you that Cordain's book talks about lean meat, but most people who actually eat paleo long-term advocate eating fatty meat. If you follow Cordain's plan strictly, you won't get enough fat or calories to stay satisfied. Paleo shouldn't be about calorie restriction, but if you don't get enough fat it becomes a calorie-restricted diet.
