On my paleo influenced diet I may have found the opposite.
I was diagnosed with hypertension a few years back and prescribed first beta-blockers and now ramipril -an ACE inhibitor.
I wasn't that happy when it was suggested that this would be a rest of life scenario, but I've been taking them anyway(2.5 mg -one of the lowest doses)
Recently I messed up reordering my prescription and ended up going 3 days without medication. Before taking a tablet I tested my BP with a machine I used when I was first diagnosed -it was something like 115/75: not exactly hypertension.
I didn't take a tablet nor the next day and in the meantime got myself a serious BP machine (upper arm as opposed to wrist measurement)
I haven't had medication for 2 weeks and record my BP 2/3 times a day.
here are a few recent readings121/80, 123/80, 109/72, 108/74, 123/80, 110/72, 116/73, 106/66, 120/81, 127/82, 118/78, 97/60 (that was after a few beers -sorry paleopeople)
prehypertension is usually flagged at 140/90 or 135/85 for home testing so I am quite happy.
As i hadn't done my BP regularly I can't say that it is a direct result in my change of WOE. I haven't checked in to my doc about this yet -when I do I'll check machine calibration against his. It'll be interesting to see what he says anyway.
Of course I don't condone taking these decisions without doctor's advice!
I was investigating ramipril on the internet and it appears to have a number of benefits, but if anyone has info on damage caused by long term use please let me know.
