curry paste and crunchy things
« on: August 03, 2007, 07:10:24 AM »
So, I bought some red curry paste. I don't know what to do with it. Suggestions? :)

Also, I'm wondering how you guys cope with crunchy cravings. I just figured out that I really like eating tuna salad by scooping it on to celery stalks, so that's a good thing.

What other crunchy stuff do you eat? I want some ideas. :)

Bones are pretty crunchy. :) If you're not up for cracking open marrow bones with your teeth, you could try some sardines or something...

Hmm, I would probably mix the curry paste with some coconut milk thinned out with chicken stock, maybe a tbl or 2 of cashew butter, and then add in a bunch of veggies and diced meat and simmer for like 20-30 min.  Maybe add some basil, or thai basil if you can get it, right at the end.

re: crunchy...
Pork rinds are decent in a pinch.  I wouldn't eat them every day though, they are very salty.

I also make flax seed crackers or sunflower seed crackers sometimes in my dehydrator.  The only paleo way I can eat sardines or tuna salad is to put it on those crackers I make; otherwise I just can't handle the texture.  For the flax I mix flax seeds and water 1:1 with a pinch of salt, let it sit for 15 min to get goopy, then spread out in the dehydrator and run it til they're done.  Sunflower seeds are similar, but I grind them first and add just enough water to make them moist and spreadable (as well as some salt/flavorings).

Ohh, also, if you don't want to make crackers, you can scoop tuna salad into half a bell pepper.  Very nice crunch!

Carrots are nice and crunchy too!  Also cucumber/pickles.

Curry paste?  I don't know curry paste from a hole in the ground.  But I do understand crunchy.   :D
I can't say that I have cravings for crunchiness specifically, but yes, I like all of the veggies mentioned, carrots, celery, bell peppers, for their taste as well as the crunch.  Fresh lettuce is fairly crunchy.  Apples seem to have a good crunchiness to me; as long as they are not overripe and turning soft.  I eat quite a few of them per week.

Those flax crackers sound good. I'm going to find some oven version of making them. At least then I can't make so many I'll just gorge on them, which is what I would probably do if I bought a box.

I'm going to try something soup-ish with the curry paste I think.
