Question for all the single cavemen and cavewomen out there: how do you date?

Although I haven't been doing paleo for that long, the thought of dating now that I am doing this freaks me out. I get enough comments about "all the fatty meat I'm eating" from my friends and family; I worry about how it looks to a guy on a first date.

So, do you not worry about it and just eat, damn the judgments? Or do you "hide the crazy" and eat before your date?

P.S. A friend of mine suggested that the only solution is to date another paleo. She said someone should make a paleo dating website - "freshmeat.com" LOL

follow your heart. if a guy really digs you he'll probably run down a deer and have a feed prepared for you.  just stay true to yourself !

Cooked paleo diet dating should be super easy.

Order steaks, order chops, eat only cooked meat, some vegs, some fruit.
If it's just fat phobic people who are too critical.  Tell them fat tastes really great.

Now if you are like me and eat raw bloody meat like a vampire, dating would be hard.

Just do what you do. The past couple of dates I've been on I've spent some of the time explaining the diet. One girl knew a little about it already and was cool with it. The other one said things like "how long did cavemen live?" and was skeptical. Really, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks and its a good way to weed out the people who are committed to a life of disease and pharmaceuticals.

Wow, true - how do you to it then? I mean, what do you do for dates?

Comments from male friends and family, or female friends and family?  I'd think most men would respect a woman who had no problem eating steak and such.

It would also weed out closed-minded gits.   ;)

I'm married with children and live with the extended family of my wife's parents and her sisters.  So I don't go out on official dates.

In our culture, raw eggs, fish, shrimp sashimi is eaten with chop sticks Japanese style is common.  Eating oysters raw is common too.

What I had trouble with at the start was my in laws seeing me eat raw beef, raw lamb, raw liver, raw blood, raw live clams.  They saw me cure myself over the years, and they've seen me heal people left and right with raw paleo diet... so they know it works... and today, it doesn't bother them at all. Not one bit.

As a man I find that a lot of the women I date are turned on by the idea of a caveman.... a couple even converted (both were veggies!)

Comments from female friends and family, I suppose.

Yes, but how many men are turned on by the idea of a cavewoman?

Perhaps I am over-thinking this...do men really care what women eat? From what I can see of my fellow 20-somethings, maybe not.

Great question!  It's terribly hard!  Ha!  Not on your part though but on the other peoples because they're usually not ready to be kicked the real deal about diet and how your body works and what it needs to run properly.  Ya know?  They basically just think you're a nut.

I have turned down tap water from people who invited me over and it "made waves" (oh boy...)  But you see where I'm coming from?  If you meet someone who super rocks it wouldn't be an issue, I'm sure.  But if you're gonna date a standard American diet type person, it's gonna present some problems.

The best advice anyone ever gave me was "Work on being the right person TO FIND.  Not finding the right person."  Heavy stuff.  Stay single, work out, cook awesome meals.  You'll be better off in the long run.

I was just thinking about this. I wonder how easy it is to find a Paleo girl in the midwest?

In my experience, most men love a girl who is happy to chow down on a big, red, meaty steak.  Passion for food tends to imply a hedonistic streak that translates to...well, I think you get my drift.  Besides, most paleo girls have great skin, glossy hair, energy...in other words, hot!  Paleo also reduces belly fat so you'll have a better waist-hip ratio too ;) (I was 35-27-38 pre-paleo and now 34-25-37)

Maybe there is a local Xfit that has some paleo guys in?  I once spotted a primal at my regular gym - the 5fingers gave him away

When I was dating, I was up front about it and personally I don't give a damn if some random guy has a problem with it.  I used to use OKcupid and had it on my profile too so it was hardly a surprise!

Mr CelticCaveGirl (who is actually American) loves my paleo cooking and eats pretty paleo when with me, and reports much better energy, and has lost 10lbs or so.  The biggest change for him is actually liking vegetables.  He will sometimes indulge in desserts though when eating out.  I never told him to eat paleo or told him off for non paleo stuff or anything like that, I just educated him on the facts and lent him the primal blueprint to read.

Bottom line - don't change yourself for someone you're dating.  If they don't like the person you are now, then what's the point?

+1

This is among the best advice ever posted here and it goes far beyond what to eat for dinner.  Too bad I can't give +10.
