First caveman-style restaurant in Europe
« on: October 30, 2011, 05:24:28 PM »
I first heard about this 6 months ago or so, but here's an article with some photos:  http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2055067/Back-Stone-Age-Trendy-restaurant-serves-food-available-caveman-ancestors.html

Quote
At first glance, Berlin's Sauvage restaurant looks much like many of the German capital's other trendy eateries.

But take a closer look at the chalkboard out front and you'll discover they are embarking on a culinary shake-up that takes its inspiration from the Stone Age.

Proudly announcing a 'Real Food Revolution - Paleolithic cuisine!', there is no cheese, bread or sugar available, only fare accessible to our hunter-gatherer ancestors more than two million years ago.

Interesting, although it doesn't look like they serve what I would consider paleo food. Gluten-free bread with tapenade? I don't think so!

If I had the opportunity to go to a paleo restaurant, this is what I'd like to see on the menu:

- appetizers like carpaccio, gravlax, shellfish, fried whole sprats, duck rillettes
- loads of beautiful meat dishes, high-quality steaks, roast of the day (so tender it falls apart and served in big hunks), rabbit stew, unusual meats I can't normally buy myself
- fresh fish, nice juicy meaty hunks of grouper made into a curry or stew, seared sashimi-quality tuna steaks, grilled wild salmon
- game meats and poultry served with things like wild berry sauces
- salads made from fresh organic ingredients, microgreens, watercress, fresh herbs and high-quality dressings
- "gatherable" veges like wild mushrooms and sea vegetables
- big platters of luscious fruits for dessert, beautifully presented as a common dish.

Now THAT would be a feast!

I was just about to post this too. When I looked at the pics in the article though, I said "where's the beef?"

I live in Southern Germany- maybe when I make it up to Berlin I'll go try it just for fun.

On the bright side of things- did you guys read what it said at the bottom of the article about the "thousands of people that said the diet worked for them despite it being ranked low in terms of effectiveness"?  Remember when that article came out about all the diets and it ranked Paleo as least effective and someone posted on here for us to all go comment that we had a ton of success with it?  Apparently the plan worked and other people noticed!  ;D That's pretty satisfying!

The idea is really good but if you visit the link, the secod picture shows what seem to be Kalamata olives. I assumed olives were "modernly palatable".
