Ladies - are we all the same size???
« on: November 17, 2009, 05:43:20 PM »
I've been noticing lately that it seems many of us ladies here are almost exactly the same size, has anyone else noticed this?

For example, here's my stats:
-5'2"
-110lbs

If so, it might be interesting to compare what we are eating in terms of calories and macronutrient ratios!

Not me.  I am 5'5" and 168 pounds.  I am not sure where I will end up, but for now my goal is 150, only because it represents being 'healthy' in my BMI.  I know it is a poor judge of health, but it is a measurable goal.  After that I will just let my body get to the weight it needs to be.

5'4"
110 lbs

I kind of fluctuate between 110 and 112, but overall have been very stable for quite a few months.

My wife is 5'5" up to 96.5 this AM (from as low as 94, was ~100 pre-paleo).  I (we, I think) am hoping she will eventually add weight between the diet and some weight lifting.  She is naturally very slender, but a little too much so when she gets this light.  :-)

5'1 1/2" and around 112 lbs.

I remember when I was just a lurker here I was very excited to find your log, Marika, since we're practically the same height. I also think we have similar-ish builds.

My wife is 5'5" up to 96.5 this AM (from as low as 94, was ~100 pre-paleo).
Wowsies that's skinny :o

So there are quite a few of us that are around the same size! Cool!

Grubinski, is your wife really 94lbs and 5'5"? That seems very, very thin!

I think I have lost some more weight even since my last weighing at the doctor's office. So I'm probably now under 110lbs. I've definitely lost some more inch-wise, I can tell that. I hope I don't lose much more. However, I don't seem quite as "bony" as I thought I looked before. So I think it's all good! I realized that I've been basically meat-only since September 9, wow! Longer than I thought!

For those of us who are roughly the same size, I'm curious to compare how many calories we're averaging per day, and our macronutrient ratios! Here's mine!

Here's my averages from now back to Oct 4, over 47 days of mostly meat-only (from a Cron-o-meter report):
Energy 1350.4 kcal
Protein 115.4g
Carbs 31.2g
Fat 82.5g

Let me see how to figure the macronutrient ratio:

Quote
The formula used by the calculator is quite simple, and you can do the math by hand if you prefer:
    * (grams protein x 4) + (grams fat x 9) + (grams carbs x 4) = total calories
    * (grams protein x 4) / total calories = percentage of calories from protein
    * (grams fat x 9) / total calories = percentage of calories from fat
    * (grams carbs x 4) / total calories = percentage of calories from carbs

So that comes out to an average of:

Protein:Carbs:Fat = 34:09:55

Warren,
Is your wife still eating the 600-800 calories like at 5 months? I'm just curious if it ever had to go up to help her gain or not. I think I got up to around 160 at birth (I didn't gain much the last few months) and was probably eating like 3000 calories at the time. I wasn't paleo though. I'm so curious about paleo pregnancies. I'd love to hear how the birth goes if your willing to share at the time. I would guess that with her diet she would have a much easier time during labor that with a SAD. I would also think that colic should be almost an impossibility.

She is eating more now.  I think it's probably still under 1500 kcal/day, but I'm pretty sure it's significantly over 1000.

I'll certainly share how it goes.  I hope it goes easier, but I'm not certain that's one of the things paleo helps with.  She was not paleo, albeit not exactly on a standard American diet, for her first pregnancy, and that seemed to go pretty well.

My wife went paleo soon after giving birth the first time, and breast fed exclusively for 9 months.  We certainly never had a problem with colic with that baby.  Part of that, though, is that we looked pretty hard for a cause whenever she cried - she never cried without a reason.

Thanks for sharing all of that Warren.

My first was so colicky that she was only asleep 6-8 hours a day in the first several months. She screamed for a good 10 hours daily. It was the most horrible time of my life! I didn't eat a SAD, but I was far from paleo. I knew about food sensitivities and tried to cut tons of things out of my own diet, but nothing seemed to help. Now I realize that for myself it took a good 3-4 months to clear out the gluten from my body. I think that is why I didn't see a difference at the time. I would have had to stop eating that stuff while still pregnant to have it out enough that it wouldn't have upset her when she was born.

By the time I had my second I had moved up the ladder (fat content wise) to following a WASP/ French style diet. She didn't have the colic that my first did, but she was still worse than most. She got better much sooner (a few months vs. a few years) and I see an ENORMOUS difference in the teeth of my first and second kids as well learning and behavior differences.

I'm so happy for you that you know about paleo during this important time. I would do absolutely anything to be able to go back and start eating paleo before I had kids.

There are some days I didn't log, I hope Cron-o-Meter accounts for this?

Averages since October 19:

Calories: 1150.8
Protein: 78.7, Carbs: 52.3, Lipids: 72.4
